Good morning, ladies! The week is well underway and honestly, I can’t believe we’re this far into February. Where is the time going? How have you been spending your free time lately? I’ve been rewatching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in anticipation of the upcoming season 4. Such a great show. And such wonderful fashion. Midge’s wardrobe is just classic. I tried to harness a little of her spirit today: I’m going to show you how to elegantly style a poncho.
I absolutely love ponchos and have worn them for years on the blog. Today’s ruana wrap is from Banana Republic. I’ve paired it with a cable knit sweater (old Vince similar here and here), which I featured last week with a suede jacket. These faux leather trousers are from Ann Taylor and work as the perfect neutral backdrop for the poncho.
Style tip: Ponchos are all about layering—everything from sweaters to fitted (long-sleeved) tees. Ponchos work best with trousers, jeans, or leggings.

I’ve really fallen in love with leather pants this winter. I’ve featured them with everything from colorful sweaters to a Heringbone blazer. So much fun to think up new and creative ways to style these trousers.

I’ve been stuck in neutral this week. From today’s white-on-black to yesterday’s black-on-plaid, I’m feeling the neutral vibes.

This is just a funny comment… every time I wear a poncho my husband hums the theme from “The Good the Bad and the Ugly..
that is too cute! and so true.
Hi Beth, when I follow the link to the Tom Ford lip stick, color Exotica, it does not show that shade. Could you confirm that? Thanks so much!
it looks as if Exotica is already sold out. i linked this color for a Reel on Instagram last week and it was still in stock. my apologies.
Thank you! No worries! I will keep checking for restock!
it’s a pretty shade of pink.
love this outfit. I bought the poncho earlier this winter after you posted it then. I just bought the cream sweater from Banana Republic you posted last week, and I have the faux leather pants. I am all set. I have been waiting for the weather in MInnesota to warm up a little. So excited to try this on. Have a great day.
it’s always a great day when we can style our items multiple ways. enjoy!
I love this outfit as I see myself wearing the sweater and pants at home and then pulling out the poncho and booties if I have ti go out
Thanks so much for the inspiration
i’m so happy to hear you found some style inspiration!
That’s one way to make heads turn. You look fabulous! I would love to be tall so I could wear that but if I bought it my tall sister in law would end up with it.
there are ponchos and ruanas available that don’t have as much volume and not as long.
I love this look, but sadly since I’m under 5′ ponchos often overwhelm me. Do you have any poncho sources for petites? I’m happy to see that the leather pants are available in Petite – I haven’t purchased any this season, but am considering it.
there are ponchos and ruanas available with less volume and not as long. J.Crew and Talbots offered these earlier in the season so keep you eye out in the future.
I purchased a beautiful soft tartan poncho when visiting Braemar in the Scottish Highlands, and had difficulty wearing it with confidence, even though the muted colours were what I loved. At 5’3”” I felt overwhelmed with the fabric. So , since the colours were perfect for my fall decor in the family room, I had two zippered cushions made with fringe still intact, by an excellent seamstress, as well as a narrow scarf with the leftover.
I love the tartan, but enjoy it in a different way.
I LOVE Mrs. Maisel…can’t wait for Feb.18!!
You look great in this poncho….I have a couple with ruffles that I get compliments on…. always nice to mix it up!!!
me either! we’ve been hanging for over a year to see how she resolves being kicked off the tour.
The ruanas you wore are beautiful and elegant. The accessories looked great However, I hope you will also model an actual overhead poncho, particularly the diagonally cut ones that are difficult to style. Thanks for all your great tips.
i have a really old post with this overhead poncho from Ralph Lauren

You are fabulous in this look. Great pieces. Great photography. My favorite pose is the close up, you looking directly into the camera. Lovely, natural look. And the ring on your right hand caught my eye, too! ~
i am blessed with a great photographer!
