wide leg pants are timeless classics in my book. i’ve already featured two different pairs of wide leg pants on the blog this spring alone: a casual and semi-formal pair. every year since the beginning of the inception of this blog, i’ve featured them heavily each season, whether they be denim, slacks, linen, ankle cut or not. they’re an incredibly versatile pant. you can dress them up or dress them down. you can find wide-leg lounge pants, or they can be the foundation of chic evening attire. a lot of women think that wide leg pants are inaccessible to them, because they must be paired with heels. au contraire. they go perfectly well with flats. don’t believe me? join me through a tour of my archives and see how to wear wide leg pants.

don’t you love a pop of color on a gloomy rainy day? this coat delivers a one-two punch with a vibrant shade of green and slim silhouette. it fits easily over a striped knit blazer, essential shirt, and navy trousers. just the other day i realized my closet was lacking a proper pair of trousers. well, guess i solved that dilemma with this leg-lengthening pant in a seasonless stretch. so for all of us working gals who wonder what to wear to work on a warm day, have i got an outfit for you. a pair of wide-leg pants are the star of the show, and i love the fit of this marina pant from Ann Taylor that comes in seven colors. a sleeveless black blouse with peter pan collar adds subtle sophistication to this nine-to-five OOTD. and for those of us who love to add a third layer, i chose a linen blend cardigan with a tailored fit. add strappy suede sandals and this outfit is one for the books. today, i’m wearing a pair of wide-leg pants that are a dream to wear and are currently on-trend. the fit is perfect and the fabric soft – two factors that make a great pant. it’s a nice change of pace to wear a wider leg. and in my humble opinion, it’s a flattering fit on every shape and size. and a whole lot of linen clothes for spring. as a matter of fact, linen is the perfect fabric all summer long. the fibers are quite strong. it’s more absorbent and dries faster than cotton. plus, linen will keep you cool and fresh in spite of those hot and humid temps. i am loving this white duster from Talbots which is the perfect third layer. it’s lightweight with an open front and has a longer length. i chose a drop shoulder white linen tee to tuck underneath. it looks fantastic with wide-leg blue and white stripe linen pants. but this baby will get lots of wear this summer. white goes with everything. what i particularly liked about this tee is the looser fit without looking sloppy. this week i am adding a pop of color to my OOTD and having some fun with stripes! a classic striped button-down pairs with slim wide-leg denim jeans from J.Crew. i love to mix stripes with stripes and these jeans are a great alternative to white jeans. my color pop today comes from a hot pink cardigan and pink ballet flats. I am short and have never liked the way I look in a wide leg trouser. To me, the style only fits taller people or slim people. When I was younger and could wear heels to give me height, I would consider this look but I can no longer wear a 3” heel. It’s just not a look that flatters me.
I love your white striped linen vest and pants!
I love a wide leg pant. At 5’2″ I have to be a little cautious with them but I grab every pair that works
I own 1 or 2 pair of wide leg….I really like them. You look amazing Beth.
Love these looks. At just under 5’3″ I feel wide legs can be challenging as a previous comment stated. That being said I feel fashion is always about balance and I feel moe comfortable with the wide leg look if it is fitted over my hips and then hangs straight or flares slightly…much like an Aline fit.
These looks encourage me to try on some looks for the up coming summer.
Thank you Beth
I must admit Beth that you can carry this look off, but for me at 5 ft 2 and a Uk size 20 it just makes me look dumpy.
Lady, this blog keeps getting better and better. Loved todays! Your looks all week long have been so chic and sophisticated. Again, I’d like to say how beautiful, stoic, gracious and selfless you are. None of us knew of your troubles over the last year or two, yet you faced every day with grace and style, and always a smile on your face! You are truly a lady to admire and look up to! God Bless you and your family!!
Hi Beth,
The wide leg pants look great on you. They are a great way to hide a swollen knee. But at five feet, size 16 they make me look short and wide. After seeing a photo of me wearing them I vowed to not buy any more. I still wear the old ones for comfort as my knee is still swollen from my surgery
I have some wide leg linen pants but rarely wear them because I worried I couldn’t pull it off. I love the long cardigan look – but I thought the “rules” were if you wear a wide leg pant the top had to be fitted – which would include a long cardigan? But you look great in it!
Ooooh, I love all of these. You look great in all these wide-leg styles. I think someone tall like you carries them off beautifully. I’m a big fan of them, and they are comfortable. (And I imagine with your leg still in healing mode right now, they might feel good and look good, too.) I thought about you all through last night. Hope each day gets better for you.
My wide leg linen pants are my go to during the summer. Thanks for this post
Thank you for featuring wide leg pants! i’m going to give them a try – I love the way they look.
It’s the small things I learn that I treasure from this blog. Lime the pink scarf to bring in the pink shoes. Or matching your jacket color to your shoes. I never stop wearing wide leg pants even when they are not in style, I just don’t like the tight pants or gladiator sandals look. The green color is so beautiful with navy. It’s my favorite look here. I need something green. Thank you for your blog and I hope your leg heals quickly.
Beth, you know how to “rock” the wide leg pant look! For me, it’s all about confidence in your style that makes it work. Each of your examples show total confidence and you just glow!
I am not sure this look would work for me. I seem to be getting shorter every year and that makes choosing my wardrobe pieces a bit of a challenge.
Stay well and keep working that new knee. We are so fortunate to live in a time when these surgeries are so perfected.
Love all the outfits you’re wearing today! They look smashing on you. I just bought 2 pairs of cropped, wide-leg pants but haven’t worn them yet – too cold here in Wisconsin!
I am so glad to see wide leg pants back in style
You look great in wide leg pants. they are so comfortable
