Who is ready for spring weather that finally let’s us head outside after a long winter? It’s time to dust off our sneakers, golf clubs, pickleball racquets, and a cute outfit or two and step onto the course or court. Today, I'm talking about what an active life after 60 means to me.
Exercise is a key ingredient to aging with grace, strength, and beauty. I love (or maybe hate) to head to an Orange Theory or Pilates class to get my heart pumping and muscles toned.
We all know that exercise improves our physical health. But did you know that working out regularly pumps up creativity and enhances our cognitive skills?
Exercising also elevates our mood by boosting the production of endorphins - hormones that act as a natural anti-depressant.
Still need more reasons to hit the gym? But more importantly, as we age we start to lose our balance and coordination, making us more susceptible to falls, accidents, and injuries.
Pilates helps strengthen those muscles that are key for balance, like the inner core and muscles in the hips and legs.
Today, I'm discussing what an active life looks like after 60
From structured exercise like Orange Theory or Pilates to games like golf and pickleball, I'm sharing what motivates me to stay active after 60
I've pulled in 3 activewear outfits today

I have had a love-hate relationship with golf for years, but this is the year I will take lessons (yet again) and learn to play a respectable round of golf.
It’s a great game that you can play throughout your entire life. My parents were avid golfers, Mr. Style, too, as well as most of my kiddos. And it’s a great way to stay social. The more we challenge ourselves with learning new skills and the more we practice, our brain chemistry begins to change, and the more dense the white matter in our brain called myelin becomes, which helps us learn even better and can even stave off dementia.

But it’s just as essential to make time for recreational sports like tennis, golf, or the fastest-growing sport in America - pickleball.

Learning a new sport like pickleball can be educational, but it can also be FUN. Adult learning is so important. It positively impacts our self-esteem and self-confidence, fuels our creativity, and connects us to our world and each other. So let’s get moving, ladies, and learn something new.

Pilates effectively combines physical exercise with cognitive skills as it really is a “thinking” exercise.
Sometimes it’s as simple as lifting and lowering one leg up and down while keeping my pelvis stable or as complex as having several limbs moving at once.
Pilates also improves posture, helps keep our joints lubricated and nourished, and strengthens our pelvic floor, which helps with incontinence.

Great post Beth! Great advice for all of us to keep learning and keep moving!
If we don’t use it we will lose it! Always love to hear from you!
Hi Beth as always great advice and outfits. I have an unrelated question. I know you’ve been asked before but I have not seen a reply. You wear a wide gold band ring with diamonds??
on the right hand that I see today again. I am assuming it was perhaps a gift. But wondering the source if possible. I love it!
Thank you
Hi Judy,
That ring is from Effy. I doubt it’s still available but you never know!
Beth.
I just searched seems to still be there. I had a similar ring but with some blue sapphires I bought myself in Italy years ago. Unfortunately it was taken from my home some years ago. My husband has purchased many beautiful pieces for me but that ring hangs in my mind. Thank you again.
It’s heartbreaking to no longer have a piece of jewelry we love. But kudos to your husband for purchasing beautiful pieces for you.
Love those memories that are attached to jewelry.
Thank you for this I am a widow
since March 2019 and retirement looks different for me, however my interests are similar to yours . I am going to try golf and pickle ball as well as join a gym! And I will do it on style thanks to your great advice.
You are so welcome! Little steps like these make all the difference in our lives, especially when we find ourselves forging a new life. I’m sorry for your loss.
God Bless!
After many years of walking on my lunch hour everyday and then taking a total body workout 2 times a week, I became a grandma! We have 2 granddaughters (7 and 8) that we have helped take care of since the day they were born. They are now homeschooled, and we are a huge part of this. It’s a workout! We had a baking day last week, and I invited my sister-in-law to participate. She is 10 years younger than me. The next day she said that she didn’t know how we do it – she was exhausted. For now, that is my primary form of exercise and mental stimulation!!
Winter is still hanging on in Michigan. We have had a mild winter but now that it’s almost Spring, we seem to have a major storm every week. Two weeks ago was an ice storm ( my husband has collected lots of firewood in the neighborhood). Last week was a blizzard and more snow predicted for this week. We are planning an RV trip down your way in a couple weeks so hope to see Spring then and be able to get out and walk which is my exercise of choice right now
