another month has come and gone. gulp! the holidays are HERE. can you believe that? but before it’s full steam ahead into december, i wanted to give you all a recap of where we’ve been this past month. below, i’ve compiled by top 5 posts of november as chosen by you, my readers. as an extra bonus, i’ve also put together a top 10 list of your favorite items from this month.
we’ve got a really fun fridays with oscar for you this week. to kick things off, there’s a new installment of friday fives on our YouTube channel. this week, we talk about breaking women’s fashion rules, namely five rules every women over 50 should break. you’re not going to want to miss it, as it’s sure to bring a little fun, sass, and (a little) controversy to your friday.
today, i’m sporting a langley vest from J.Mclaughlin paired with a black turtleneck from Everlane. (pick it up in aqua blue if you’re looking for a color pop.) and how fun are these loafers from Neiman Marcus? i first debuted them during my trip to France. they were a huge hit. i get so many requests for advice for comfortable and stylish shoes. don’t miss out on these.
per usual, we’ve got a great recipe and cocktail—perfect for cool, brisk day. and of course, we can’t forget Oscar himself. kick back, relax, and slide into fridays with oscar with our family over here at style at a certain age.

here are two comments from my readers about their experience:
Beth I also have done almost 8 weeks of Fasterwaytofatloss on your recommendation. I can’t tell you how much better I feel. I am amazed how much food plays a part in our well being! I have not had any gluten or dairy and have done IF and find it all very doable, I intend to adopt this as my new lifestyle. I have not been able to exercise do to a rotator cuff repair, but have still lost weight and inches! Thank you for recommending!
Beth, I wanted you to know that because of your testimony to the Fwtfl, I signed up in September and am just finishing my 8 weeks. I love the program and am making it my life. I have seen so many positive aspects such as losing pounds, inches, feeling great, sleeping great, and improved health. At 69 I didnt think I could lose inches and pounds, but this program does work, and all done in a positive manner. Thank you Beth!

fall is well underway, and we’ve officially entered the holiday season. as we all know, as fun as this time of the year appears on paper, it can and is stressful. whether you’re traveling afar, hosting a crowd of people, or dealing with it alone, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s back-to-back can be overwhelming. this week on the blog, we’re going to talk self-care. self-care can take a lot of forms, and we’ll talk a lot about it this week, but today i’m going to focus on managing grief during the holidays.
as many of you know, i lost my husband of 36 years this summer. this is the first holiday season i am going to face alone. not alone alone—my kiddos will all be here—but alone in a sense all of those who have been married will understand. it’s difficult; it’s painful, and it’s just plain heartbreaking. it’s all of those things. and based on the outpouring of support, i know many of you—my readers—are going through the same thing this year.

other than denim, there is nothing i’ve featured more on the blog this fall than a blazer. i’ve worn them with sweaters, turtlenecks, and denim boilers, to name a few. i’ve dressed them up. i’ve dressed them down. earlier this fall, i put together a guide on how to wear a blazer.
blazers have been the single most talked about and purchased item i’ve featured this year. i figured, let’s keep the trend going. on YouTube today, we’ve got a new entry into our fashion squared series. here, i show you multiple ways to wear a classic black blazer. make sure to check it out; i know you’re going to love it.
today here on the blog, i’ve put together what i’m calling: the fall and winter blazer blowout and gift guide. it’s a collection of all the ways i’ve worn a blazer this fall. at the end of the post, i’ve also put together a little gift guide of a wide variety of different blazers—from the classic black to plaid. i know you’ll find something you love.

You are so elegant and youthful you can help change us from our old fashioned ways thanks. S
Hi Beth…I know all the firsts must be so hard. Thanksgiving without your life partner had to be hard. I know your kiddos helped fill the void. Christmas is a hard holiday for many people. Just hold on to all your wonderful memories, keep your kiddos close and you will weather the storm. Thank you for keeping us entertained with your blog, I look forward to it everyday. Loved several of your looks today. I am not a fan of jeans after a certain age, but to each their own, what ever works!
My fashion rule to break is hair color. When I stopped coloring, I had a wonderful surprise–silver white hair. It runs on my Mother’s famy and thrilled that I have it.
I would like to see how to incorporate jeans and existing holiday tops into dressing for casual gatherings. I do own several long velvet skirts and am considering donating them as I just don’t have formal occasions to attend anymore. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
All great looks! I love this time of year. Keep up the mixing casual/dressy items–they look elegant and modern when two disparate items are combined, I think. I am a fan of winter clothes–and fortunately, I live where we do get all 4 seasons, but in a much milder, shorter variety. So boots, fun shoes, scarves, sweaters, jackets, vests, tights…it’s all good!
