as much as i love and wear classic apparel it’s just darn fun to play with the trends. and this week on the blog it’s all about what’s trending now. but before we start i will share a styling tip. i typically pair a trend with one classic piece to keep the overall look subdued. let’s take a look at today’s ootd where i am wearing not one but two trends – long vest and flared, cropped, fringed jeans. first, notice where the cropped jeans hit on my leg. right above the ankle. that’s the sweet spot. proportion is an often overlooked but very import aspect in pulling together your look. which is one reason to find an excellent tailor that will fine tune skirt or pant lengths. trust me on this. if you want to break fashion rules this is not one of them. proportion is key to making or breaking your outfit. next is a long cascading vest that a belt could easily cinch the waist for a crisp, structured look. but i decided to go the feminine route with a soft, flowing blouse tucked underneath. denim is decidedly masculine and oft times i keep the look balanced by mixing the two together. just like classic and trendy. have you noticed the classic pieces brought in to keep symmetry? yup. you guessed it. i am wearing my go-to pearls. take a look at my necklace and earrings. and what about my purse? nothing is more classic than a statement handbag. i think it’s the icing on the cake for this on-trend outfit. so there you have it, ladies. day one of what’s trending now.
happy monday!

Love the outfit on you but it would overwhelm my short Ma-Kettleish shape. I actually do have a similar pair of jeans but will have to rethink the vest (which I love).
you can tweak the outfit to suit your shape. lots of choices these days with vest as they’ve made a come-back. i’ve always loved them!

I really like this simple looking outfit! How tall are you? I always have to wear heels if I am wearing something like your longer vest, or a duster or else I feel and look dumpy.
Also, do you have a hard time walking in heels on a downhill slope? I am noticing that sidewalk and it looks similar to my own entry sidewalk at home which is rather difficult to walk down in my Friday night going out heels. LOL

if i refrain from imbibing on cocktails i do quite well traversing hills in heels! as for my height i am close to 5’8″ and heels definitely help with proportions. especially when wearing a longer length. but if you are 5’4″ or shorter I hope you are shopping in the petites section!

I am not petite at 5’6″ but I do love looking taller. LOVE my heels. and my cocktails. LOL
