while our weather in georgia is flirting with summerlike temps your neck of the woods is most likely enjoying sixties and seventies. perfect spring temperatures. and that means one thing. layers. which is why a denim duster (or denim dress) is a must-have for spring. one day you can wear it as a dress – one and done. the next you can pop it over blue jeans and a tee.
today’s ootd is all about casual ease with one of the hottest colors for spring – yellow. and i’m wearing the performance stretch jeans from Ann Taylor last seen here. the jeans fit true to size (i’m wearing a size 8). the high waist and button details add that extra something. many of us fret over white denim as lumps and bumps show through the fabric. not so with these jeans. a yellow striped tee looks fantastic with white jeans and the dark rinse denim duster (old, similar here and here) adds contrast. yellow suede sandals (old, similar here and here) reinforce the yellow color scheme. and we all know i love me a wicker handbag.
key accessories add personality to this simple outfit. cuff bracelet (old, similar here and here) necklace (old, similar here and here). wicker handbag.

yellow is a happy color and perfect for spring/summer. if you are hesitant yellow doesn’t look good with your skin tone try different shades. this striped tee is mustard. a deeper shade of yellow. since there are about 400 shades of yellow one is bound to look good on you.

Hi Beth, thank you, what an idea you’ve given me. I have a blue denim dress and I never thought of wearing it like you are portraying in your photo’s, x
denim dresses turned dusters are a great way third layer for spring. xo
Hi Beth,
I love the wicker handbag you have been seen sporting this spring! I have been on a mission to be more efficient with what I put in my handbag so that I can carry a smaller one. I like to carry a cross body bag (hands free, security while grocery shopping). The problem that I have is that I am – in the words of Jane Russell the Playtex Bra lady – a “full figure gal.” I feel like I look ridiculous with a bag strapped across my chest. Just wondering if you or your readers have had the same problem. Thanks!
Yes Gloria! I feel the same way when I wear cross body bags. I wish I could find one with longer straps so the bag would hang at a typical location. Being busty, I feel as if the bag doesn’t fall low enough.
hi gloria! i personally love crossbody bags as they are so functional. sometimes, we just need to be hands free. as far as looking riduculous, i think we can be quite hard on ourselves at times. so give yourself grace. xo
The demin duster looks nice on you. I think you need to be tall to pull that off.
hi mary! no, you don’t need to be tall to pull this off. just keep the proportions in line with your height. petite size clothing is made in direct proportion to your body. so i hope you’re shopping in the petite section. xo
I’ve had good luck with Marc Jacobs bags having longer straps. The Nordstrom website often lists the drop…awesome since a couple of inches makes a big difference.
thanks for the tip, claire! xo
I feel the same ladies. I have never liked the look of a strap going across your bust but as an older 70 year old who has found herself having to use a cane, a cross body is the way to go and I just have to try to look as good as I can and feel that the more stylish the handbag is, the better as eyes will be drawn to the bag and not the, in my case, sagging bustline! 🙂
Nice outfit! That duster would look great in fall/winter with a belt too.
excellent suggestion! it would look fantastic styled like that! xo
Beth, I’m 5’4″ so have an aversion to tops that make me look shorter. Will you suggest a length other than duster or long tunics for we shorter gals? Love your site! Thanks for all you do.
hi phyllis! i hope you are shopping in the petite section as they make clothes in proportion to your size/height.
