labor day weekend has arrived and with it the slow march into fall. technically speaking autumn commences on the twenty-first of september. but in my mind, labor day officially marks the end of summer. when i was a young girl growing up in omaha the first day of school landed on tuesday the day after the looonng weekend. during those three days, there was a mad dash to the store for last minute supplies as i gathered binders, note cards, and black and blue pens together. plus, any miscellaneous clothing item my mother or i deemed a must-have. but there were other things on my mind as fall commenced and another school year ushered in.
back in the day when there were only three t.v. networks the fall lineup was typically released the latter part of august. anyone remember t.v. guide? it was my bible along with the september issues of glamour, seventeen and vogue magazine. long hours were spent flipping through that pint-sized periodical as i mapped out my favorite shows and negotiated with my brother for dibs on particular nights.
little did i know that trends were being set and trotted out right before my wide-eyed baby blues on the little screen, big screen, and those beloved magazines dog-eared from use. all i knew was that it was a veritable feast of inspiration for a fledgling fashionista that was torn between comfy overalls and sneakers and those cool skin tight jeans and sky-high wedges that ruled the day. anyone remember lying down on the bed to zip those form fitting blue jeans up? yup, i guess they were the predecessor to skinny jeans sans spandex…
over the course of the next few weeks, i thought we would dip our toes into the current trends and see how we can translate them into everyday classic fashion. so sit back, grab a cup of java, sparkling water or glass of wine depending on the time of day you’re viewing this post. are you ready? let’s take a look at a color you’ll be seeing everywhere this fall – red.
