something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. at least three out of four is true. today, four out of five items are wardrobe staples – white tee, white cardigan, white sandals, and wicker handbag. but there’s a trend alert with wide-leg pants which means the blue striped pants are new. kind of sort of as they were purchased in January and have since sold out. i know, i know sold out is the word you least want to hear on the blog, but that is the way the fashion world goes these days. if you’ve done any shopping in the past year, you know all too well the supply chain is tight! take heart; wide-leg pants are on trend for Spring, so there are definitely options if you love this silhouette. and i do! it’s such a nice change of pace from skinny jeans and cigarette pants. especially this time of year when temps begin to edge up.
yesterday, i mentioned Jack Rogers sandals in the post about preppy style. today, they are in action. this is the design that put them on the map in the early 60s. these days the iconic brand has branched out to incorporate a myriad of styles, so if the original Jack Rogers sandal isn’t your cup of tea, one of their comfort sandals, jellies, or even slippers just might suit you.
it’s fun trying new trends on for size. so today, the trend alert is all about wide-leg pants. and i have to admit i like the silhouette that’s forgiving in oh so many places. it looks like travel will be easing in the coming months, and these pants just scream resort, beach, or pool. hello, vacay! oh, how i missed you! actually, next week i head to the Ritz Carlton Reynolds on Lake Oconee for a little R&R., and the best part is it’s only a 45-minute drive from my house. a mini-vacation is just what this girl needs. i’m certain many of you do too. these stripe pants (sold out, similar here, here, and here) will be just the ticket for a casual lunch by the lake. today, i paired the wide-leg pants with a simple tee (old, similar here, here, and here), but it would look adorable with an eyelet blouse or slim-fit sweater. since the pants have a bit of volume, the rule of proportions is in play with a form-fitted tee. i grabbed a white cotton cardigan for a third layer in case it gets too chilly in the morning or evening. the Jack Rogers sandals add an element of fun to this outfit. the wicker tote adds subdued sophistication. all in all, i am ready for those gorgeous springtime temps Georgia is delivering. and my mini vacation.
if you noticed tiny scabs sprinkled on my neck and chest, those are from my second IPL treatment for sun damage. i finished round three for my face, so that area is done! one more round for my neck and chest, then that will be in the books too. don’t worry, i won’t leave you hanging as i will follow up with a designated post about the treatment and the results. spoiler alert! i will share that i was so pleased with IPL that i added a treatment for my arms. that starts in May, along with six sessions of micro-needling. this is the year to finally address all of the sun damage created in my youth.

After much trial and many unhappy returns, I finally found a pair of wide leg jeans that are the most comfortable jeans I have worn since high school. I prefer the leg width to be the same from hip to hem. No lantern legs for me. What I like best is that getting the rise and waist measurement right means a perfect fit for my triangle body shape. I almost want a second pair. Even if this trend passes quickly, why wouldn’t I want something that looks this good and feels great?
you should order a pair in every color!
Good morning Beth
Your are my sunshine every day.
you take a simple pair of pants and create a beautiful combination!!
Admire you very much
thanks so much, gloria! xo
What a charming and happy outfit. Makes me smile. I have that style of sandal in several colors and love them. Also love wicker purses. Now I must be on the lookout for a similar pair of pants. They are just so cute – will one pair be enough??
i just love this relaxed silhouette! perfect for this time of year. is one pair ever enough?!
Great post! I see that you’re pairing flats with the wide leg pants. What sort of shoe would you suggest for a more formal look, i.e. black double breasted blazer and white, wide leg pants? Thanks!
you could easily wear a pair of stilettos with that formal look or a pair of kitten heels. but i would choose a pointy-toe.
Beautiful colour palate. Nothing says spring and summer like crisp blue and white stripes.
Glad to hear, you’re progressing smoothly on your IPL journey, Beth. Wouldn’t have noticed anything actually, unless I do a close up. Just remember, even in clouds or cold weather, sunscreen is now a daily part of your routine to keep them from coming back. Silver lining to Covid – like you, most of my gal pals have taken advantage of the lack of socializing to grow their hair out or tweak things. 🌷
i think we all realized the importance of self-care!
I love the tread toward sane and comfortable pants. That top is so cute. I would not have thought to pair that with my blue striped pants, it’s all in the details and looks so modern compared to my plain white tee.
what a cute silhouette that’s comfy to boot. that’s a win/win!
Who makes these pants? I hope they make more. They look amazing and I love that high waist and loose fitting are back even though I’m short.
i am loving the relaxed fit of wide-leg pants. these are from Ralph Lauren.
Great post as usual, Beth!
One question: I thought it was Palm Beach (brand) that crafted the original, authentic Jackie Kennedy sandals?
Regardless, you look fabulous!
no, definitely Jack Rogers. and Jackie single-handedly catapulted that brand into the stratosphere.
Beth, I really enjoy the down to earth openness of your blog. Micro needling sounds scary. After IPL why do you also need the needling?
IPL addressed the sunspots/brownspots caused by sun damage. micro-needling stimulates collagen production. collagen is key
for healthy skin, hair, and nails. but micro-needling specifically addresses your face.
