another factor that played into my decision making was that the wedding was held outside in a rustic setting. short dresses are perfect for afternoon weddings. a jumpsuit would be a suitable alternative.
we’re continuing (and ending) with our final installment of my top outfit picks of the decade. today, we’re bringing you a yearly retrospective: the top outfits for women over 50 in 2019. 2019 was a quite the year: so many highs, and equally many lows. as some of you might know, this is the year my oldest got married. it’s also the year mr. style passed away. this is also the year we brought on junior style and my daughter-in-law Kelly to work at the blog.
impossible to put this year into meaningful words, really. so i will leave it at this: thank you, my readers, for all of your support over this past year. the outpouring of love continues to sustain me. we ended 2019 strong, and we have plans to continue to grow in 2020. so without further ado, here are the top 5 outfits of 2019.
the first outfit up is taken from how to wear timeless classics: crewneck, trenchcoat, and skinny jeans. and it starts with a basic cashmere crewneck in a basic color – gray. this year i am loving Everlane cashmere sweaters. the price point is great as is the quality. and i like the slim fit that isn’t snug.

the sweater is paired with a stretch high rise cigarette jean from Everlane. this straight leg jean features a hidden button fly and smoothing front pockets. it’s also made of an innovative fabric that has stretch yet has an authentic denim look. this is my first time wearing these high rise jeans. the fabric has some give but doesn’t end up looking saggy and baggy by the end of the day. typically, i wear size 8 or 29, but i sized up to a 30 for these jeans.
coming in second is are the dresses from the post mother of the bride or groom dress. our oldest son was married in May. of course, i was on the hunt for the perfect mother of the groom dress. there were three dresses that made the final cut for my mother of the groom dress. the wedding party colors were blues and greens. so i stayed within that color palette.
coming in fourth today is a recent outfit taken from cashmere from head-to-toe | thanksgiving gift guide. it’s been all about J.Crew for me this fall and winter. today, i’m sporting a matching camel cashmere sweater layered with a cashmere sweater-blazer.
an easy way to break up this chromatic pairing is with a color pop. i’ve chosen to do so with this silk scarf from Talbots. i’ve been loving the silk scarves this year. and if you’re looking for some more ideas, this one from Talbots is one of our best sellers.

Hi Beth, thank you for your idea’s, help and inspiration in 2019. Hoping you health and happiness for 2020.
Happy New year to you and your family plus Oscar and Ollie luv from Julie and hubby Graham from England xoxo
I just recently “stumbled upon” your blog. You inspire me tremendously with your classic fashion and life offerings. I’m recently divorced at 58 and this Christmas was a rough one. Giving to others was my rescue; as your recent post said, as you bless others, the blessing comes back to you. As we say hello to a new year, here’s to dressing with class, living life fully, and giving to others. Thank you so much for your encouragement!
Lots of good looks here. Let’s hope good things come for us all in 2020. Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Beth!
I’ve been reading you post, EVERY DAY now for 2 years. I love it and I thank you for always being real. Your strength is inspiring! I love many, many, many of your ideas. The posts I love the most and think you look stunning and show elevated sophistication are some of these you posted today from 2019. More basic and uncomplicated, with less “busy-ness” going on. The ones that show a little more form fitting and less bagginess show off your GREAT figure!
I also have always loved your tablescapes, recipes and would love to see more. I also love your “style icon” comparisons! You mentioned in a recent blog about wanting to update or refresh your home – I would love to see your thoughts and ideas on those too!
Another thing that I would love to see, is some affordable options to some of the upscale items you show (you showed a beautiful outfit several months ago that included a 90.00+ some dollar tee shirt, that even if my husband wouldn’t mind me spending that, I still wouldn’t :).
Thank you, thank you, thank you for ALL the posts and work you do. I look forward to them everyday!
Best wishes to you and your family Beth, for a blessed new year filled with much love, happiness and laughter!
Chris
You are an inspiration Beth, wishing you a healthy and positive 2020. Hugs.
