A Thanksgiving Recipe Roundup:ย  New Takes on Old Favorites

1. Smoked Turkey

I am so happy you’re here because today was a real family affair in the kitchen. Alex and I have teamed up to share our Turkey Day with you! I realize things may be a bit quieter for you this year, but that doesn’t mean we have to give up on the flavors of Thanksgiving; the time spent preparing the dishes and the celebration of what we are thankful for. I will be making a number of dishes for the Djalali table which I will share with you next week, but today let’s focus on Smoked Turkey and Sweet Potato Casserole.

2. Cornbread Andouille Dressing

Welcome, welcome! I am glad you’re with me today as we make our way through the Thanksgiving menu. Today we are focusing on dressing. Cornbread Andouille Dressing, to be precise. I do a slightly different stuffing every year. But as much as I think I will do a different bread as the base, I can’t seem to quit cornbread! Sometimes I dream of a crusty sourdough dressing…well, maybe next year. Speaking of bread…I have an exciting project here at the house coming up in the weeks after Thanksgiving that I am so excited to share with you! So stay tuned….

3. Brussels Sprout Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette

Hello, welcome! Yesterday I told you to stay tuned for how to use some of that leftover preserved lemon paste from ourย Preserved Lemon Chicken. Well, you don’t have to wait long. Today’s Brussels Sprout Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette incorporates some of that leftover preserved lemon paste into a savory, sweet vinaigrette that will gently wilt shredded Brussels sprouts, coating toasted pecans and dried cranberries. Toss in fresh mint and parsley, top with fluffy grated Parmesan and we have a wonderful salad for your Thanksgiving table. Let’s get to it!

5. The Rebel Thanksgiving Cheesecake

Hello Everyone! Today is all about dessert. I am excited to share this one with you because I had never made a cheesecake before! Its reputation for being difficult has always deterred me. But for Thanksgiving this year, I want to do one dessert that was unexpected. We will have Pecan Pie, and Beth is bringing a pumpkin dessert, so this cheesecake will be the outlier. The rebel Thanksgiving cheesecake! This isn’t a pumpkin cheesecake, or anything Thanksgiving-y like that. Today we are talking about the classic Cheesecake. (But, I do have one little twist…)

6. Full Harvest Salad

Hello and welcome to Djalali Cooks! It’s wonderful you’re here today. I have just discovered my new favorite Thanksgiving Side and I want to share it with you. Thanksgiving food… we all have our favorites; perhaps we favor certain dishes more for their nostalgia factor than for how they actually taste. And perhaps we have some truly favorite dishes that we only indulge in at Thanksgiving. Whichever the case may be, this Fall Harvest Salad is a great addition to the Thanksgiving Table.

Most of the Thanksgiving menu consists of brown or neutral colored food. Have you ever noticed that? The cranberry sauce or jello salad being the only items with a pop of color on the table… Well, adding some vivacious green, purple and orange will beckon your eyes and your appetite – a perfect palate cleanser between heavy bites of mashed potatoes, gravy and dressing.

  1. Nancy

    Hi Kelly,
Thanks for the recipe round-up! These are great!
Although we go out for Thanksgiving dinner, I make a typical Thanksgiving dinner for Christmas Day. I can’t wait to try the potatoes!
I’m interested in the mandolin that you link.
I don’t usually spend that much money on kitchen tools because I don’t cook that much, but when I do, there always seems to be a lot of slicing involved. Lol! So obviously you, who cook a lot would recommend this mandolin since you have it and you’ve linked it. What I want to know is, is it as easy to use as it looks in the video? Thanks Kelly…

    1. Kelly Djalali

Hi Nancy! I really love that OXO Mandoline. It’s very sharp, has very sturdy legs and my favorite part is that the dial to adjust the position of the blade is accurate and holds its position. I definitely recommend it! Thanks so much for stopping by! xo Kelly

  2. Susan R.

Oh my goodness! This menu line up sure does look delicious? I’m tempted to just follow your lead and copy the whole thing from beginning to end.

    1. Kelly Djalali

Hi Susan, This whole collection would be a great menu for Thanksgiving! Take the stress out of the day, and call this post your menu! Let me know how it all goes for you, xo Kelly
