since the first of the year i have featured a simple black duster in 3 out of 7 posts. reason being is to show just how versatile 1 item can be. i don’t know about you, but i love an article of clothing that turns into a workhorse in my closet. and this particular duster is as versatile as it is pretty. today’s ootd couldn’t be any more casual with a white button-down, a pair of blue jeans, and loafers. but when this black duster is added into the mix this daytime look heads into the chic zone. so remember, when building your wardrobe think of 3 different ways you can wear any given item that’s hanging in your closet. block out an afternoon in your busy schedule and begin to mix-and-match. soon you will begin to see you not only have a wardrobe that’s beautiful, but works for you. and isn’t that the way it should be?

I love these looks. I have a similar black duster-length sweater and had trouble styling it — tried it over a printed sheath and over white pants with a floral tunic thinking I needed flowers and prints and bright colors to brighten up so much black, but it looked grandmotherly — then I saw how beautifully you worked it, keeping it fresh and minimalist with just a crisp white shirt or black sheath. I’m rethinking how I’ll wear mine now, without the fuss of prints. Thanks for the inspiration! (I like the pocket accents on yours)
hi laurrie!
i’m so happy you found some inspiration. it’s always fun to peruse, magazines, blogs, and my all-time favorite pinerest to see how others put together their outfits. then, with a few ideas swirling through your head it’s easy to tweak things to suit your style. i do love these faux leather pockets. it’s little details like this that give an outfit some zing!
