as another friday rolls around, we are closing the week with a delicious appetizer and a cocktail in honor of oscar called the old pal. as casual fridays go, my outfit today defines weekend lounging. on these hot august days, comfort is key so i have oh-so-comfy jean shorts and a light and loose sweater – which is perfect for staying comfortable in the air conditioning.
hot pink for summer
it’s no secret that my favorite color is pink. and i am loving hot pink this summer. it’s such a bright color pop that it’s impossible not to feel bright and cheerful when wearing this hot hue. pairing this color with white is an easy choice. the brightness of both white and hot pink make it an easy combination. plus white is a neutral that is going to brighten up any outfit.
i love the side button detail on this linen blend sweater from J.Crew. it has an oversize fit, so i like to give it a little side tuck for a relaxed, but put together look.
white denim shorts are so very comfortable and the button fly is on trend this summer. if jean shorts are not for you, white bermudas or chinos would be a great alternative.
like my outfit, we have a colorful appetizer today: mini red, orange and yellow peppers stuffed with artichoke spinach dip. a little bread crumbs or panko sprinkled on top and baked to perfection. making the spinach artichoke dip from scratch adds a few more steps, but so worth it. you can use store-bought dip if you like, i am sure the results would be delicious.
defrost spinach and squeeze out as much water as possible
combine all ingredients besides the mini peppers in a large bowl. stir well and season with salt and pepper to taste
halve the mini peppers and fill each half with the dip
sprinkle with more grated pecorino and bread crumbs
bake for about 15 minutes, or until dip is bubbly and tops are golden

the old pal
this cocktail seemed appropriate for fridays with oscar. oscar is definitely a loyal pal, by my side through thick and thin. an old pal is typically made with rye whisky and is very similar to a negroni, but with dry vermouth instead of sweet. we are using bourbon for our old pal today.
add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, fill with ice and stir until well chilled
strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a lemon twist

Great hair style!! Shorter is youthful & classic on you. Draws the eye up.
I still don’t have enough courage to go to the salon yet. Since its a bob, its easy to trim myself, but i dream of the day I can go professional. I hope soon.
I am so loving that haircut🥂 combined with the lighter eye shadow and bright but not dark lip – wow! It’s tricky as we age especially for those of us who have gone au natural hair wise, to bring colour back to our faces. Like you I love a vivacious lip, but am finding bold vs bright a real thing. A MUA suggested light to medium shades of my favs with a softer lip pencil- magic! Compromise saves the day. I adore that sweater on you, always love the way you incorporate brights into your wardrobe.
Thank you Beth for your style idea about having an outfit ready to go. I put one together that day. Last evening I had totally forgoten that I wanted to go to an outdoor concert. When I remembered it I had very little time to get ready. Luckily I was able to throw on my to go outfit that was ready with shoes, purse(with mask) jewelry, and even underwear. I could spend what little time I had, putting on make up and doing my hair instead of searching for some part of the outfit that wasn’t where I thought it was. If I had included a hat, I wouldn’t even have had to do my hair. So great to see you kneeling!! I haven’t been able to kneel since I had my knees done in 2016. I’m wearing hot pink out to dinner tonight. That will be my to go outfit for next week
I see you kneeling on your new knee! You recovery looks amazing. My husband is having his knee replaced sept 10th. Keep us posted on your recovery tips!
Pink is my latest color to add to my neutrals. This is a perfect sweater. V neck, length is just right and the little extra room just says comfort. I love it with white but pink is so versatile. You hair is looking s good and Oscar, what a cutie.
Love the pink sweater. Noticed it’s a final sale, though. Could you provide info about sizing? Did you purchase your regular size? Thanks…and happy weekend!
