It’s Oscar’s 11th Birthday! Oscar has shared the blog stage with me on Fridays since the very beginning of Style at a Certain Age. You all have seen him grow up over the years, and to celebrate his eleventh birthday, today’s Fridays with Oscar is all about our good ol’ boy Oscar! So sit back and travel through the archives with me as we look back at 11 years of Fridays with Oscar.
Happy Birthday, Oscar!
We first adopted Oscar when we lived in San Francisco, in 2014. We moved to Athens, Georgia at the end of 2015, so Oscar spent his first year as a city dog. From the beginning, Oscar would tag along on photo shoots. Mr. Style snapped his pics to chronicle his growth. Can you believe how small he was? Look at his ears. He’s never quite grown into them. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Oscar’s First Appearance on the Blog!
Oscar started life as a rescue pup after his mother suddenly died. Christmas 2014, he was looking for a human who would give him a home and some love. Good thing as Mr. Style and I were looking for a pup after our beloved English bulldog’s heart gave out.
Fridays with Oscar 2015
Oscar grew by leaps and bounds week after week. Month after month. Mr. Style kept snapping photos; readers looked forward to Friday. and I loved having Oscar by my side.
November 2016
This was the beginning of a regular Fridays with Oscar blog post. It was so new that back then, we didn’t even have recipes!
October 2017
In 2017, we brought Ollie home and she and Oscar became thick as thieves.
September 2018

March 2019
By March of 2019, Oscar’s day in the spotlight evolved to include a cocktail and recipe. Fridays with Oscar has become the perfect way to end the week and kick off a casual weekend. We dish up easy recipes, a delicious cocktail, and casual weekend outfits.

July 2020 – Our pandemic summer saw us all spending most of our time at home. This suited Oscar and Ollie just fine though – they loved having me home every day!

Summer 2024
In the summer of 2024, Oscar decided he no longer wanted to pose for his closeup on Fridays with Oscar. He prefers candid shots now, so while he still makes his weekly appearances, he’s more au natural!

At the ripe old age of 11, and showing up every week, he’s earned the right to retire from the spotlight. To ease his modeling duties, we now include Ollie in our Fridays with Oscar.
So while he’s slowed down quite a bit, Oscar has such a happy-boy attutide and still loves to spend time outside with his buddy, Pax.
We may not engage him in games of fetch anymore (we have to mind his hips!), but we are all here for a rousing, yet gentle, game of tug-of-war.
And of course, he is still curious as ever about hwat we’re cooking up in the kitchen!

What a joy! Oscar´s eleventh birthday and he does look very handsome!
My Golden Retriever, Pascha is 9years and 7 months now.
He had a severe kidney infection 3 weeks ago and almost passed away. His antibiotica medication and lots of love from us and rest saved him.
I cried during those 5 days of illness. I thought we would have to let him go.
But we were given a second chance and we are even more grateful to have him in our lives.
Our dogs are our very best companions.
I wish you and Oscar a beautiful celebration day and for Oscar a strong health for his 11th birthday.

It seems like our dogs birthdays roll round faster than our own. We got our current dog, Norm, during the pandemic after we lost his great uncle just 2 weeks before lockdown. Norm was born Nov 25th, 2020, so his birthday is just around the corner. He was a Christmas gift from Santa to our then 7 year old, and we picked him up right in time for her Jan 25th birthday. I can’t believe he’s almost 5, and that Oscar is 11!

Beth, Oscar is a gorgeous forever fur baby friend to you and the family. He is so handsome, he must bring you immense companionship, love and unconditional love. Such a sweetheart. Ollie is fabulous too. I love dogs and cats, I’m a cat person. We had Birman’s Romeo & Juliet. Romeo lived for 19 years. I miss them both way too much. We no longer have fur children. I get way too attached.
They both are so very lucky to have you as their human mom. It’s great you have taken lots of pics.

Like you Beth, I to have a German Shepherd . His name is Butch, he’s beautiful. He’s all blond except for his ears and nose which is black . He is so smart, learns things very quickly. so kind but protective. He is such a gentleman. Everyone loves him. He’s generally the most popular one in the room. He also a great traveler. Loves to travel.
He too has hip troubles. He was 6mos. Old when my son brought him home. He was born on my husband’s birthda. About a month later my husband died. Butch is now 5 years old. I don’t know what that is in dog years. The doctors tell hip problems and arthritis tend to run in the Shepherd family . He is still active but I notice some changes. He has been such a blessing to both my son and I. My son named him after his Dad. Butch was my husband’s nickname. Just wanted to share the love of Butch with you.
