Happy Sunday evening, ladies! A late edition for sure, but I think you’ll like it. Last week, I reviewed Talbots’ pre-fall collection. Today, I’m reviewing the Ann Taylor & Chico’s pre-fall collections.
At a high level, here are a few takeaways, all very similar to my thoughts on Talbots’ collection.
- Animal print is here and in a big way, especially zebra stripe.
- Neutrals are in, but standout colors include oranges, yellows, and reds.
- High-wast pants are everywhere.
- Detailed sleeved dresses are showing up across the board too.
Overall, the pre-fall lines are a nice change of pace from a very bright & bold Spring and Summer—not that color is out by any means.
A few highlights for me include Chico’s selection of ponchos, kimonos, and ruanas. I’m also loving Ann Taylor’s jackets.
Much like last week, I’ve gone through the archives and pulled 5 outfits from 2017-2021 as inspirations to build new outfits from the pre-fall collections.

Reviewing The Ann Taylor & Chico’s Pre-Fall Collections
2017
The backbone of this outfit is a pair of faux leather leggings and a cardigan. Truly a pairing that will never go out of style.
So many fun prints to choose from this year, especially from Chico’s. I went with a paisley print one, but have fun with your selection.

The outfit inspiration pairs a solid sweater with a printed button-down. I flipped the script for my new outfit and went with a fun printed sweater and a crisp white shirt.
I wanted to keep the yellow color pop to contrast with the plum backdrop, so I found this cute mock neck jacket from Ann Taylor.

Couldn’t not feature animal print. So, I went with a maxi skirt from Ann Taylor and paired it with this cut cutwork top from Chico’s.
I’m loving Ann Taylor’s shoe selection this year and paired the outfit with these kitten heel mules.

If you’ve been following my blog for any extended period of time, you’ll know how I feel about utility/field/denim-style jackets. This embroidered jacket from Chico’s caught my eye pairs perfectly with the neutral basis for my outfit.

Truly a timeless classic, a blazer and denim are always on trend. I mixed things up this year a bit and went with a baby blue blazer and top. Personally, I really liked the color trends from Spring & Summer and don’t want to drop them completely in my Fall wardrobe. But if you’re looking for something more muted, Ann Taylor in particular has got you covered.

6 Recipes to Make on Vacation

Just a small comment. I have long admired the step-in sneakers, but could never find a pair that felt comfortable. I just appreciated your tip about the step-in sneakers you featured from Vince today that they are not good for people with “high arches and/or wide feet.” I have both, so sadly I guuess they’re not for me.
I hope there are some new styles this fall that I can wear instead.
As always, I appreciate your takes on the new fashions and love your classic but sometimes quirky style!
