January can be a challenging month to stay warm and stylish. If you live up north, there is slushy snow to contend with and single-digit temps. Brrrr. It’s easy to get into a style rut when the weather outside is frightful. I trudged through many a snowbank all through my childhood, college, and beyond. It can be a struggle to get out of bed on a cold winter morning.
And it’s easy to slip into a winter uniform of oversized sweaters and sweatpants. But let’s step outside the winter-style box for a moment and put on our thinking caps. It’s definitely possible to look stylish even when the winter winds blow. Let’s take a look.
Today, I'm adding some winter wardrobe color with this wool Chesterfield coat from Ann Taylor

Today, my outfit started with the wardrobe basics. Having your closet stocked with closet staples in neutral colors will make putting together an outfit as easy as 1,2,3. I chose a black turtleneck that will keep me warm and added a new pair of pants from Spanx.
They’re the Perfect Pant Wide Leg designed for a roomy and relaxed fit. I think I’m in love! Wear this outfit with boots or pumps and you have a beautiful outfit that will take you to work or the weekend with ease.
Since I’m wearing a monochromatic outfit I chose a pair of leopard pumps (similar here) to amp up the volume. And nothing looks better on a cold winter day than a pop of color. This red coat from Ann Taylor is out of stock but I’ve found similars here and here. And boy oh boy does it brighten any gloomy day!

Great red coat (Chesterfield). Sizes for petites limited, but you have me thinking about including something similar in my closet. Happy New Year!
I hope you snag a coat on sale in the color of your choosing! Nothing beats a dreary day faster than a pop of color.
Lovely outfit, Beth. Love that red coat but in Wisconsin I’m wearing puffer coats all winter and warm socks and booties. I have one woolen dress coat that I never wear…Ha! It tends to go from winter into summer very quickly here. Turtlenecks are a constant.
Puffer jackets are a must-have in Wisconsin. Stay warm!
Living in the Pacific Northwest, we have a lot of rain and grey days. I love a red coat, be it wool or a raincoat. Yours is perfect.
A pop of color goes a long way on a dreary day! Happy 2023!
