TGIF! Can you believe Friday is knocking on our door once more? February has arrived, and with it, lots of love. If you’re wondering what to give that special someone in your life, your kiddos, friends, or even yourself, I’m sharing a few of my favorite Valentine’s Day Gifts. But we all know Fridays are for Oscar, a cocktail, and a bite to eat. So come on in and sit a spell.
Today, we’re wrapping up the Yellowstone series. Season four is in the books, and if you’re like me, you’re looking forward to season five. The modern-day western penned by Taylor Sheridan is set to begin production in May with a fall release date. Fun fact: it’s the most-watched show on cable television since its launch in 2018. And one of the supporting characters is Michael Landon’s daughter – Jennifer Landon, who plays Teeter.
I heard great things about this show from my chats with my painter way back in 2018 but only started watching Yellowstone last winter. And I’ve gotta say I’m a big fan. Not only is the acting first-rate (who doesn’t love Kevin Costner?) along with the writing, but the scenery is breathtaking, and I love the laid-back fashion dished up every week by Beth and Monica. The Dutton family is single-handedly bringing hats and cool jackets back in vogue. And I just have to mention that the lead character is sixty-three years old and not portrayed as a daughtering old fool. Progress!
Today’s outfit is perfect for the weekend. It’s a simple style recipe for a blouse and pants. I particularly liked these explorer pants from Banana Republic’s fit with a cinched waist and wide legs. Since there’s volume with the pants, proportion is key; a fitted top and/or jacket is necessary. The reviews are 50/50 with these pants. You’re either going to love them or hate them. Me? I’m always keen to try something on for size and came away loving these pants. I added a simple ivory blouse with balloon sleeves is the perfect match. A horn link necklace adds texture and visual interest to the outfit, as do the brown suede boots. To wear a hat or not to wear a hat? That is the question. My mom loved hats and passed that love down to me. But it’s come to my attention that I don’t wear them nearly as often as I should, which needs to be changed, starting with this wool fedora. Mr. Style would nod his approval as he loved and wore hats regularly.
To a rocks glass filled with ice, add the lemon juice, bourbon, and sage simple syrup.
Stir with a spoon to combine.
Garnish with half of a lemon slice and sage leaves.
Notes
Sage simple syrup
To infuse the sage, simply add 10 sage leaves to the simple syrup. Let the sage leaves steep for 10 minutes, then remove from the syrup.
I’m not a big fan of bourbon, whiskey, or rye (they all fall under the same family), but this is a bourbon cocktail that I will happily make again. The addition of the sage simple syrup gave the bourbon just the right balance. Beth Dutton would approve.
Rinse and drain 15 oz. chickpeas in a colander. Measure out ½ cup; reserve remaining chickpeas for another use.
Finely grate zest of 1 lime with a microplane or grater into a small bowl.
Cut lime in half and squeeze juice from one half into bowl with zest. Cut remaining half into 2 wedges; set aside for serving.
Gather 8 cilantro sprigs on cutting board. Starting at the stem end, finely chop stems until you get to the leaves; reserve leaves for serving. Add stems to bowl with lime.
Add ¼ cup yogurt and ½ tsp. salt to bowl and mix with a spoon to combine.
Remove casing from 2 chorizo links; discard. Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium-low. Cook chorizo, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until partially cooked, about 3 minutes.
Add reserved chickpeas and remaining ½ tsp. salt and mash together with back of spoon until chorizo is cooked through and crispy, 7–10 minutes. Remove from heat.
Spread reserved crema over 4 tostada shells.
Top crema with chorizo mixture.
Top with reserved cilantro leaves and serve with reserved lime wedges alongside.
