Are you going anywhere for vacation this summer? We have already been on one to St. Simons Island and have a couple of lake trips planned. I have been enjoying the slower pace of life before school starts back in August!
Packing up my family of 5 is usually not the easiest part of vacation however! Ha! But when it comes to packing myself, there are 5 travel makeup items I never think twice about carrying with me for any trip…
Today Jennifer is sharing the 5 travel makeup items she always takes with on vacation
Each item is shoppable inline
Jennifer provides a variety of drugstore alternatives too!
Finding a palette that has all 3 - blush, bronzer, and highlighter is key for travel! I like a trio like this that I can use for my cheeks, warming or contouring my face, and even use as an eyeshadow substitute. Here's the It cosmetics Your Most Beautiful You trio that I have bought twice already because it's just so handy and wearable. The cheek color is a universally flattering peachy pink. The highlighter has just enough warm shimmer that works on dark and fair skin tones and the bronzer does not go orange at all!
For a shadow look, I can swipe the highlighter along the lower half of the eyelid and run the bronzer along my crease for definition! Using these together on my cheeks and eyes creates a cohesive and clean makeup look.
Here is a less expensive cheek trio option by Flower Beauty.
(Can double as a brow product!)
This is one of my favorite multi-use products. I buy the brown gel eyeliner that matches my brow hair color and I just switch out my brushes when using it on the brows after the eyeliner with this specific formula, the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama gel liner.
I use the included brush to line my lids then switch out to an angled eyebrow brush to apply for filling in my brow hairs. This drugstore formula has amazing staying power and dries down quickly which makes it ideal for all day wear for eyeliner + brows.
Traveling with liquid face wash is always tricky and can get pretty messy. That’s why I love a cleansing balm. For me, the solid balms travel much better and do a great job of removing all of my makeup on the go by using just one product. This Elemis Pro Cleansing Balm is a 3-in-1 treatment that nourishes like a balm, removes makeup like an oil, and hydrates like milk. My skin feels so amazing after using this cleansing balm.
A fabulous drugstore option for a cleansing balm to try is the ELF Holy Hydration Balm.
This NYX Shine Loud Long Lasting liquid lipstick in shade “Magic Maker” has quickly become one of my favorites. I recently took it on a family trip where I tested its longevity at a water park with my kids where it stayed on ALL DAY with NO touchups needed!! Not only do I trust it because it’s got some of the best staying power I’ve found, but because you can choose to either wear it as a matte finish or add the gloss from the other end to create shine!
When traveling, you can’t go wrong packing a neutral nude that will go with whatever you threw in your suitcase clothing-wise. This formula has a wide variety of wearable nudes, pinks, and mauves. The Chanel Le Rouge Duo Lip color is also a popular dual-sided longwear lipstick to try.
This Vera Bradley quilted fabric makeup bag is one I have relied on for years because it’s just so handy! I like a makeup bag that has various compartments to hold brushes in place, zipper compartments, and mesh pockets. The organization part is key to travel and being able to find things easily when on the go. Vera Bradley also makes some of the cutest print options for these bags I think it’s fun to find a makeup bag that coordinates with my luggage. 🙂

Wonderful to hear! And yes definitely check the VB fabric travel case out – it’s one of my favorites!
Jennifer thank thou for your make up tips! What color lipstick are you wearing on your 1st and last photo (you are wearing a striped top) Such a beautiful complementary color.
Thanks so much Mary Ruth! I’m wearing the NYX shine loud liquid lipstick in the shade “magic maker” that I mention towards the end of the post. It’s a go-to nude for me!
Jennifer, thank you so much for your helpful hints. This is a great idea pack your make up travel bag once and done, ready for every trip!
you’re so welcome Sharon – thanks for reading my posts and for the sweet comment – Jennifer
Great post ! I always pack moisturizer, hand lotion and lip balms as planes, the sun and the beach make my skin dry! Love Elemis but my wallet doesn’t, so I use the new Pond’s cleansing balm instead. Such a lovely rose fragrance.
Oh lip balm is always included for me as well! I agree, the Elemis isn’t cheap but I have also tried the Ponds one you speak of and it’s a great option that won’t break the bank! ELF Cosmetics holy hydration cleansing balm is also lovely
Jennifer, I loved this post! Thanks for all your great travel products. I wasn’t familiar with these trios you mention and I will definitely be purchasing them in the near future for travel.
Thanks Nancy! Glad you enjoyed this post!
I have several blush trios that came with gifts with purchase. Never thought of using them for shadow too. What a good idea! You didn’t mention foundation I used to use a tinted moisturizer spf 50 by Lancome but they stopped making it. Now I’m experimenting with alternatives. I don’t go out of the house without sunscreen on my face
Blushes + bronzers can absolutely double as eyeshadow in a pinch! it’s a favorite beauty hack of mine 😉 I definitely wear a tinted moisturizer or foundation almost every day and an included SPF is a MUST! I love the Laura Mercier natural skin perfector tinted moisturizer SPF 30 if you need a rec
Thanks Jennifer for your nyx lipstick is very pretty for the summer.
And all the make up ideas for traveling
Thank you
you’re very welcome! let me know if you try it!
