my favorite summer tops

earlier this summer, we devoted an entire week to my search for the perfect summer dresses.  just like summer dresses, i’m always on the hunt for summer tops. unlike dresses, separates are versatile, so it’s easy to mix and match for endless outfits all summer long.  this week, we’re talking my favorite summer tops.  each day, we’ll feature a top i’m loving with some inspiration on how to style it.

my favorite summer tops

today, we’re featuring a three quarter sleeve sweater from Nordstrom.  the colors and stripes make for a bold, standout piece that pair perfectly with these kiki ballet flats.  we’re loving color and bold patterns this summer, offset by a solid neutral base.  i’ve paired this sweater with a denim pencil skirt (and here), but this sweater would work just as well with a pair of shorts.

wear a sweater during the summer?  obviously depends on where you live, but this three quarter sleeve sweater is airy enough to wear comfortably in the southern heat, particularly when paired with a skirt like today’s.

denim skirts

we’ve talked—and continue to talk—about how to wear denim this summer.  i’ve pulled in a white denim skirt today (and here).  i love white as a neutral base, particularly in the summer.  it’s flexible and can virtually be paired with anything:  a tee, blouse, button-up, or sweater.  and although i don’t wear as much denim during the summer as other seasons, you just can’t go wrong with a denim skirt.  it’s durable and flexible giving you endless possibilities to mix and match.

Where did you get that adorable pink and straw purse you are carrying with the white denim skirt?

Hi, Beth! Today’s post reminds me of summer sweaters in the mid-80’s. Have looked for their come back and hopefully, you’ll blaze a trail for their return! Our daughter, a mid teen at the time, wore her favorite, cute, soft beige/soft pink sleeveless summer sweater, while I had a favorite beige with elbow-length sleeves. Both were in fabric (likely a cotton blend) cool enough for hot Texas days. Will keep a watch for the return of summer sweaters! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. You look great as always~

Great outfit and love the pop of color! I stumbled on an old pink and navy ootd post and am curious what other combinations are your favorite?
I love coral and real, but still trying to get brave enough to tactfully wear them together.
Thanks for your website. You are such an inspiration!

Having worn heels for too many years, I need pretty flats for every occasion. You are posting some pretty ones following your surgery. Could you make this a focus of one of your blogs?

The sweater color combination is beautiful, but I’m a sucker for stripes. The outfit is well coordinated and looks great. You can really work a jean skirt!

I loved the outfit a few posts back with a graphic pink tee, when you wore these shoes and carried this bag. I just love both. They both are such great looks and shows just how versatile cute accessories can be.

Gotta know….(I LOVE this look on you, BTW) What bra are you wearing? Your sweater lays so nicely and you look so smooth and lifted. I don’t mean to be too personal but this is your forte, after all, so I thought I’d ask. Foundation pieces can make such a difference. I’m loving your new longer hair, too! I loved your shorter hair on you, too! You tend to wear it all so beautifully. Thanks for the info and the inspiration you provide for those of us who can’t think of what to wear on some days. You are such a huge help.
