once summer arrives it’s time to take stock of my wardrobe staples. you know, those items you just can’t live without and go with everything. as a matter of fact, if you don’t have the basic essentials on hand it is next to impossible to find something to wear on any given day. i guarantee it. so what are the top basics you need to make your summer wardrobe sing?
everyone would agree that black pants are a wardrobe basic. and a white shirt. both items should be hanging in your closet. several weeks ago i wore these staples here .that ootd was an instant hit. but how do you put a summer spin on these classics?
cotton and linen are perfect fabric choices for those hot summer days that georgia has been stingy with thus far. (i am not complaining one bit.) but even when the temps are in the eighties these fabrics are a dream to wear.
exchanging black pants for shorts is a nice change of pace for those days that call for a relaxed look. bermuda’s are quite versatile as you can dress them up with a blazer or down with a simple blouse. if you don’t think you can rock shorts at a certain age think again. but a skirt would look just as good. don’t forget we’re talking about wardrobe basics today.
this white linen popover gets a modern update with a high-low hem. tucked or untucked it’s perfect for work or weekend. if linen isn’t your thing try a cotton version here. personally, i love how linen rumples. it’s old school and uber chic. and 100% natural.
let’s not forget to add an accessory or two. a black tote is classic. and comes in handy when you visit the farmer’s market. it’s the perfect size for a bouquet or a baguette. maybe both. and white sandals? a great accent to a black and white ensemble. my jacks are back in action. again. are you tired of seeing them yet? i hope not ‘cuz they’re getting lots of mileage this summer. but check this pair out here
who noticed how easy it was to put an outfit together using wardrobe staples? black and white is always all right in my book. how about yours?

Nice! I love linen, too. I admit I actually do iron it, and use spray starch to make it look crisp and beautiful, but then the minute I sit down it gets all wrinkly–I just sort of love it–it’s like painting in watercolor–you just have to let go of control, and let it do its magical thing!
Your hair looks great–and this is so simple but classy. We’re having good temps right now ,and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
thanks, sue! the fonts were originally like this then kaflooey… running a blog is a full-time job.
i iron my linen too but when it starts to rumple i have to smile because to me it looks so chic.
