if you can believe it the fourth of july is only days away. as a teenager, i always looked forward to this holiday that’s filled with all sorts of fun activities from swimming to golf to water skiing followed by a delicious barbecue, ice cream, and fireworks. way back in the day when there were only four major sale dates the 4th marked the start of summer markdowns. and i was always anxious to see if several of my favorite items were finally affordable. it was a waiting game back then. sometimes patience paid off and sometimes it didn’t.
of course, it’s always fun to get into the spirit a few days early and dig out a few patriotic pieces from my closet. yup, these red flats come in handy on more than one occasion. but this red and white stripe pair here would be just as fun to wear. or these denim flats here.
oscar is helping me decorate our front porch this week. so stay tuned to fridays post to see what we came up with. in the meantime i’m getting into the spirit with a cute striped summer dress purchased earlier this spring. yes, it’s a few inches above my knee. a silhouette i feel comfortable wearing. but here’s a style tip: the shorter the dress the lower the heel of your shoe. here are similar dresses here, here, and here with longer hemlines.
i couldn’t resist a little pattern mixing. this time the contrast comes from a polka dot tote designed by Adam Glassman for the O, Oprah Magazine collection for Talbots. and if you didn’t know Talbots famous red hangar sale is in full swing with up to 50% off. i have my eye on this gingham handbag and this striped tote.
many of you have asked for more than one view of the ootd so i’m trying to remember to incorporate your suggestion. this dress looks good from every angle with a dropped waist, side panels and visible zipper.
it even has pockets. and we all know that dresses with pockets are an absolute dream come true. these pockets are lined with faux leather.
there are so many fabulous spots for photo shoots here in athens. nothing beats southern architecture that showcases pillars, expansive porches, and plantation shutters.
let the countdown for the fourth begin! but i can’t help but be a little sad to bid june adieu. if only it could linger a little longer. time does march on doesn’t it ladies? happy hump day.

Love the outfit. Looks very comfy and fresh!
This dress certainly highlights your gorgeous figure, Beth. I love the fun way you accessorized it with the polka dot tote and red flats. Just enough pop to let dress shine in its own casual chic way.
What a striking yet simple outfit! Love it. Red shoes again, always my favorite. the dress is a good length on you. I have old elephant knees with scar down the middle of left one now so I must wear
mid knee length at least. Have a sparkling 4th!
You look terrific! Love stripes and red shoes. Mixing it with the polka dot purse really brings it up a notch.
Beth…you look lovely and so comfortable in the ootd. I am 61yo and agree with you on dress length. I am a just above the knee kind of gal. Hope you have a wonderful holiday.
Nicely done Beth ! The pattern mix is superb and that dress fits like it was made for you !
Loving everything about this outfit. You look awesome Beth!!
That’s a cute dress with nice details–I like the side panel with the vertical stripes. And nice mix of stripes and polkadots. The red shoes and red in the bag are just the ticket. It’s been the most beautiful weather here lately–for late June in NC, I am amazed, but I’ll take it for sure! I’m with you–where the hell did June go?!
Darling dress with all the lovely details…the bag is perfect with it…and of course, the red flats are the star. You look mahvelous, dahling! xoxo
