what’s on my summer checklist? white and more white. yesterday i added pink. today, it’s a dose of black for date night with mr. style. nothing too fancy tonight as we are keeping it low keel. many nights, we will head to a movie then catch a bit to eat afterward (or vice versa) but whenever i glance at the movie roster lately, i think ‘ho-hum.’ maybe i’m wrong but the movie scene is far from what i experienced as a young girl and teenager during the sixities and seventies. movies like to kill a mockingbird, cool hand luke, the godfather, network, jaws. even the eighties did a fairly good job of keeping pace with teen movies the breakfast club, ferris bueller, sixteen candles, or how about raiders of the lost ark? maybe i’m just being nostalgic, but it seems as if hollywood has decided to churn out mediocre films and one too many remakes like the mummy.
so instead of dinner and a movie tonight, it might just be plain old dinner. my white cropped pants are back in action – for some reason i am loving crop flares this year. and a simple striped tuxedo shirt i picked up last summer. the cotton is crisp and cool and i love the longer tunic length as there’s no need for a tuck. embellished block heels add a hint of drama as do black beaded earrings. black belt, black handbag, and this girl is ready to head out the door. but hollywood, could you please make an original flick now and again? that is all.

I confess I wear white ankle jeans 75% of the time because I’m lazy! They make me look pulled together no matter what! In FL I can wear them year round and make all the “even older than moi” gals happy that I’m not breaking the their Memorial to Labor Day rule (so silly since I see super models where white jeans all year!) I can see I’ve got to be more adventurous with my shoes tho. Keep inspiring us slow learners!-Laurel
that’s the good thing about florida – it’s summer fashion practically year round. and yes to white denim 356 days a year. who ever thought up those silly fashion rules anyway?!

You have posted another outfit that is my favorite…ha! Seems they are all my favorites. Love the shirt…do you have trouble finding a button up shirt that fits properly? If I buy one that actually buttons and doesn’t gap, the shoulders are too big…sigh… Amen to the poor quality of films…we watch a lot of BBC shows at home. Eat our own popcorn, put our feet up and stop the film if a bathroom break is necessary. xoxo
hey donna! i do sometimes have a problem with a gape between buttons. i will a) pin it from the inside or b) leave it unbuttoned if it doesn’t reveal too much information.

Great casual look. Love the ease of this outfit. Look for the movie THE HERO starring Sam Elliot. It gets great reviews and he is so easy to look at and listen to.
i have to check out the hero. i’ve always loved sam eliot!

That looks comfy. I love cotton, and anything that doesn’t stick to me in the heat is good with me. I remember that striped tuxedo shirt– love it. I tried to get those Talbot pants in the white and they don’t have my size. May have to call and see if they get any returned. I love those black pants and would love a white pair–they’re nice.
I don’t feel the same urgency in going to movies these days that I did when I was young and on the outskirts of Manhattan. Back then, I pretty much went to every single movie that came out, the minute it was released, but now, I figure–ah, I’ll catch it on the rerun, stream it, and sit comfy at home. Every once in a while, a movie demands the big screen, but most of the time, our home TV is pretty large and we have the soundbar, and it’s pretty much like being at the movies anyway! I think summer movie offerings are historically pretty abysmal!
cotton and linen are soooo comfy to wear come summer. and i’m like you, it’s nice not to have something sticking to your body when it’s hot and humid.
good luck on your pant search. sometimes the stores can work magic for us!

Love the crop flares!
are they not the best thing since sliced bread?! i’m having a love affair this summer with anything cropped or flared.

I love this white look a lot! It is so fresh and neat, simple, classic and soooooooo elegant at the same time. I was always afraid of white pants but maybe I will purchase one soon. As usual, you inspired me Beth. Have a great weekend! Renata
hi renata! it’s always a good day when i hear from you. and i hope you purchase a pair of white pants as they are just as versatile as their sister the black.
i hope you are enjoying your summer.
