hopefully, most of you have noticed my caricature plastered on my blog sidebar. it’s included in today’s post — second from the top. but i thought i would share the original post that inspired the illustrated rendition. if you’ve been following along here at style at a certain age you recognize i’m wearing several perennial favorites in the photo — cardigan, skinny jeans, signature belt, and pearls. it’s a preppy look through and through — my signature style that relies heavily on the classics.
and yes, the blog is 100% devoted to an outfit of the day. after all, we have to throw on some clothes after the alarm clock goes off. but i did want to introduce you to the talented young artist that penned this marvelous illustration, Lauren Airress. here’s a brief recap of an interview:
Lauren is an amazing young artist with oodles of talent flowing from her fingers. If you can believe it, this young woman has two powerhouse names, Disney and Pixar, happily displayed in bold print on her resume.
Lauren and I met quite by accident (if such a thing exists) when we were both residing in the Nob Hill district. My husband and I had recently relocated to San Francisco with our beloved English Bulldog, Buster. On most Sunday’s we made our way to Huntington, a dog-friendly park a stone’s throw from our apartment. On a particular afternoon, Lauren and her husband happened to be sitting on a park bench next to us. As people are wont to do they began to admire what a handsome fellow Buster was. We chatted back and forth, enjoying one another’s company then parted ways when it was time to go home.
It wasn’t long afterward that we ran into each other again as I was taking Buster for one of his daily walks. Then, we ran into each other again on another hilly street of San Francisco, and then yet again. Until one day, Lauren asked if we would join she and her husband for dinner. With no hesitation whatsoever Mr. Style and I said yes! Although I do remember suggesting Lauren should check out my Facebook page — just in case she needed assurance we weren’t some sort of stalkers…
Don’t you just love life’s twists and turns? You never know who’s around the next corner waiting to make your acquaintance. These days, Lauren and her husband Ryan reside in their new home located in sunny SoCal. Los Angeles to be exact. I’m certain you’ll find her most days with a sketchbook in hand, sipping a cup of tea, and capturing the likenesses of the latest wildlife that have wandered into her garden. I badger Lauren from time-to-time that we should collaborate on a children’s book I’ve been kicking around, but for now, I am happy to call Lauren my friend.

Her illustration of you is spot on. Lauren is very talented. And love the sweater here!
I used to head to Nobb Hill and Grace Cathedral to walk the maze inside when I was traveling to SF https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/86e3b05dcde80f44d2f54a8cffcf0c103f535088473e4bc735d1e4a40f6d75ab.jpg for work and needed a minute of quiet. I’ll attach a photo of my co-worker I took, when they had a special art installation–“Graced with Light…” isn’t this the most peaceful image?
beautiful photo, sue! and you know what a beautiful street grace cathedral is located on. i loved crossing the street, standing on the street corner and gazing down at the splendor of san francisco.
