Happy Friday, ladies! We made it through another week! Hooray! Next Friday, I will be at the beach house in Tybee with one of my dearest friends from my Houston days. Laurie and I have been friends since 1991 and try to schedule a yearly girls' trip. Last year we headed to Charleston, the year before Savannah, so it’s only fitting that we spend time together at the beach. Can’t wait!
This week on FWO, we are sharing casual weekend outfits. Kelly whipped up feta with lemon, which is a yummy appetizer fit for friends and family alike. The cocktail this week is a classic cocktail, Paper Plane, that was created for Toby Maloney’s Chicago bar, The Violet Hour. Rumor has it that Paper Plane is a reference to the M.I.A. track Paper Plane. It’s equal parts bourbon, Aperol, Amaro, and lemon juice.

Last week, Kelly and I featured casual weekend outfits from Banana Republic Factory. So let’s rinse and repeat for this week’s ootds. Last week I wore chinos, and Kelly wore a T-Shirt dress. This week the roles are reversed, and I’m sporting a navy t-shirt dress that is as cute as it is comfy and a pair of white sneakers. Kelly chose a darling lightweight blouse in a bold pattern, high-waisted chinos, crisscross sandals, and cinched her waist with a belt.

3/4 oz. Bourbon
3/4 oz. Aperol
3/4 oz. Amaro
3/4 oz. Lemon Juice
Lemon Peel, for garnish
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice until very cold, about 30 seconds. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a lemon peel.
Crispy Feta with Lemon is an easy appetizer that is light and delicious. Be sure to use care when frying the feta; the cornstarch coating is delicate to work with, but it creates the lightest, crispiest crust.
1(8-oz.) Package Block Feta, preferably not in brine
3 tbsp. Cornstarch
1 tbsp. Sesame Seeds
2 tbsp. Unsalted Butter
Flaky Salt
Freshly Ground Black Pepper
Red Pepper Flakes, for serving
Lemon Wedges, for serving
Crackers or Toasted Baguette Slices, for serving
Cut the feta in ¼-inch-thick slices, then cut each rectangular slice in half crosswise to form two squares. You should end up with about 16 squares. Transfer the squares to a paper towel on your cutting board and pat dry.
In a large shallow bowl or rimmed plate, stir together the cornstarch and sesame seeds. Working with one at a time, gently coat the feta on both sides with the cornstarch mixture.
In a large, nonstick skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the feta in a single layer and cook until golden-brown, about 1 minute.
Use a nonstick-safe spatula to flip and cook until golden-brown on the other side. Transfer to a platter and sprinkle with flaky salt, black pepper and red-pepper flakes.
Serve warm with crackers or toasted baguette slices, with lemon wedges alongside for squeezing on top.
