<outfit post> pencil skirt challenge:

TGIF! which means this is day five of my pencil skirt challenge. in keeping with casual friday my outfit today is polished, but laid-back and will help power me through a day of meetings then off to dinner or drinks. maybe even a movie. is ‘gone girl’ out yet?

i love animal print and have known for years that it never goes out of style. but there seems to be a resurgence in popularity as of late, especially with leopard. and what could be a more perfect companion to a simple black skirt? the leopard shirt by Ann Taylor i chose for today’s look helps elevate staples like the black skirt i have worn all week. i moved away from a head-to-toe monochromatic scheme by adding a tan leather jacket, haircalf pumps, and a bold brass belt buckle which also pulls the effortless look together. remember, it’s friday and i want to keep the mood light.

so what did you think about this week’s pencil skirt challenge? i hope you found some fresh ideas to use in your own wardrobe. go ahead, style it your way. that’s what fashion is all about.

that’s a wrap for this week. have a great weekend!

<outfit post> pencil skirt challenge:

day four and it’s time to kick up the volume with the black pencil skirt. today i went for a minimal look, going with a head-to-toe monochromatic color, including a pair of black boots. but since the outfit is so simplistic in nature i decided to jazz it up by piling on several layers of pearl necklaces Coco Chanel style, giving the ladylike look a modern edge. i don’t know about you, but pearls happen to be my go-to accessory. in my eye they seem to go with just about everything: denim, chinos, skirts, silk, cotton, wool, the list goes on and on. for fun and a little variety i have collected an assortment of necklaces through the years in a variety of lengths and millimeters, freshwater and cultured, authentic and costume. they’re chic and classy. enough said.

today’s outfit is comfortable enough to handle the city streets in style but if needed it can pull double-duty going from morning meetings to evening cocktails. happy thursday!

<outfit post> pencil skirt challenge:

for day 2 of the pencil skirt challenge i switched out the houndstooth blazer worn on monday to a leather moto jacket for a more modern, edgy look. i love this jacket from Ann Taylor that has hung in my closet for several years. here in san francisco i wear it year round. it is an amazingly versatile blazer as i can dress it up, as in today’s outfit, or dress it down with a pair of jeans. if you are following my blog you have already seen this little gem in action on numerous occasions 🙂

i chose a simple grey tee to break up the black ensemble with the only color coming from the scarf and clutch. black sandals and belt complete the look, but a pair of red heels or bright blue would add a fun kick if you are in the mood. accessories are the finishing touch to any outfit so always keep your eye out for great belts, scarves, and, of course, shoes. be on the lookout for a tees as well as these beauties are an inexpensive way to mix up your wardrobe.

<outfit post> casual sunday:

loving the cooler temps and the fact that suede, leather and fringe will be my style muses for months to come. i chose a neutral color palette today with shades of brown that range from creamy mocha to dark chocolate. brown is a great fall color that you can punch up with bright colors (orange or green) or tone down with gray or black. look to nature this time of year for color inspiration.
