The most challenging aspect of covering the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is that many items sell out quickly. It happens every year, and it’s disappointing. While clothes can be a challenge to shop for during this epic sale, beauty products and lingerie are safe bets. So here are my beauty & makeup picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
Today, I'm sharing my beauty & makeup picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
From skincare to night care to gifts for friends and family, I've got you covered today
Just for fun, I've put together 6 outfits based on past beauty & makeup posts, all from the Nordy sale
Beauty & makeup are all shoppable via inline, text links. The outfits are shoppable via text- and image-widgets
Supergoop Sunscreen is fast becoming a favorite of mine, especially when I head to the beach. My next trip to Tybee is in early August. Can’t wait! Paula’s Choice is a brand I can count on. The Jumbo BHA set is a great value. Kiehl’s Deep Pore Cleansing Mask helps eliminate surface toxins from the skin. Masks are always in my toiletry bag when I travel. They’re a quick and easy way to revive tired skin. Don’t forget eye patches work wonders too!
I’ve had the privilege to work with Esteé Lauder and test out their new and improved Advanced Night Repair. I’m a big fan as it helps fight against the environmental assaults our skin is faced with every day. Try the Advanced Night Eye Repair Serum too. I can also recommend Clarins Double Serum which boosts radiance and evens out skin tone
Silk pillowcases are not only luxurious, but they help decrease signs of aging. Slip pillowcases are my go-to’s. We spend a third of our lives in bed, so I make certain my bedding is top-notch. Slip also offers a discovery collection that includes an eye mask and hair tie.
Fresh is another beauty brand I can count on. Their Rose Skin Care collection is a-ma-zing! Love the toner.
I’m a big believer in skincare devices for helping my mature skin stay plump and hydrated. I recommend NuFace Facial Toning Device. Why? Microcurrent technology works! It tones our facial muscles helping our skin to stay taut. Dr. Dennis Gross has an at home pro facial steamer that looks interesting. And PMD Pro Clean Rose Quartz facial cleansing device has good reviews.
A magnifying mirror is a must-have when it comes time to put on makeup. I have a SimpleHuman sensor mirror in my master bathroom, and i LOVE it. Here’s an upright version that’s cordless and rechargeable.
I reach for Two Faced Better than Sex Mascara time and again. The same with Nars Orgasm Blush which works for so many skin tones. They are tried and true favorites that I know I can count on. Dior Addict lip set is in my cart. It’s an $84 value for $58 during the sale. If you like a natural glow to your cheeks Hourglass works wonders. MAC Cosmetics has a complete eye kit featuring a limited edition eye palette, eyeliner, and mascara for $45. I've heard rave reviews about Deborah Lippmann Stripper Duo nail polish remover that hydrates your nails. Patchology Posh Pedi Cure is an at-home foot peel treatment.
It’s always a good idea to keep small gifts on hand for last-minute invitations. You never know when you need something at the last minute. I’m loving Voluspa set of 5 Tin Candles, Diptyque 4-piece gift set and Boy Smells Moody Woods are all good choices. Nest is always a favorite brand. Jo Malone too . If you’re looking to test out new fragrances the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a good time to shop. Try bestsellers Aerin Delux Amber Musk Collection or Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, and Diptyque travel trio is perfect to throw in your suitcase or handbag.
Happy Thursday, ladies. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is reaching its conclusion. One thing that sometimes gets overlooked is that the sale provides a good opportunity to purchase fashion investment pieces at more reasonable prices than they might normally be.
What are "investment pieces exactly"? They're items of good quality, usually at higher price points, that can last a lifetime. And while investment pieces can be obvious designer brands, they don't necessarily have to be.
To my mind, we're talking fashion items like:
For each of the above categories, I went through the sale and identified two investment pieces and provided inspiration on how to style them from items also taken from the sale.
And before we go further, the price points on the investment pieces I chose are higher than items I usually feature on the blog. Let's just get that out of the way right now.
But I'll also say this. Suppose that you invest in a piece that will last you, say, 10 years at a price point of say $500. That's the equivalent of buying a $50 alternative every year. Or a $100 alternative every 2 years. And so on and so forth.
When buying investment pieces, I try to stick to a few basic principles:
With all of that out of the way, let's get right down to the items.
Today I'm spotlighting 5 fashion investment pieces that are still available at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
The outfits I've modeled are all old, but I've put together similars for each
Everything that is featured today is shoppable via a text or image-based widget
Happy Sunday, ladies. On Thursday, I relaunched an old blog series, Back To Wardrobe Basics. The idea behind the basic series is to spotlight timeless, essential wardrobe basics every woman should have in their wardrobe. We featured everything from trousers to classic denim to chambray shirts.
As I've mentioned all month, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the perfect time of the year---the perfect sale---to stock up on those basics. And while I know that by mid-July, there's a sense that there's nothing left at the sale. Yes, a lot of things are sold out, but if you know what you're looking for, there are still some great deals to be had.
So today, I'm continuing on with my basic series and focusing on 5 new items:
My regular readers will know the name of the game by now: for each of these categories, I've found an item from the sale from a brand I know and trust. I've then built an inspirational outfit around that item to show you a way to wear it.
So, without further ado, let's get back to the basics.
Today I'm continuing to get back to essential wardrobe basics by picking my 5 more essential fall staples
For each category, I've put together an outfit for inspiration, sourcing all items from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Each outfit is shoppable via a text and image-based widget
Any time I put together a list of basics and/or essentials, a denim jacket makes that list. Absolutely and completely versatile, I have several jackets in my wardrobe. From dark to light washes; black and white; denim jackets work with just about everything and just about any time of the year.
Today, I've paired the jacket with an olive shirtdress. Set against a neutral base, my sandals bring a welcomed pop of color.
From cocktail parties to a night out on the town to a day in the office, a little black dress is absolutely essential. It's stunning in a midi length, but an A-line shape is perfect for any body type.
The little black dress easily transitions from summer to fall. And when the temps dip down throw on a jean jacket for a casual chic look.
Board: Garment-Dyed Chore Jacket (J.Crew) | Heritage Explorer Pant (Banana Republic) | Ella Canvas Tote (Tory Burch) | Padded Slingback Sandals in Leather (J.Crew) Budget Alternatives: Utility Jacket (Walmart) | High-Rise Wide Leg Pants (Target) | Slingback Sandal (Amazon) | Canvas & Leather Tote (Target)
If you woke me up from a dead sleep and asked me what's my go-to, classic style uniform, I'd immediately tell you, "a blazer and jeans".
Whether you prefer one or more buttons; oversized or fitted; every woman needs a blazer or two in their wardrobe. In my opinion, they work best with a pair of straight-leg or skinny jeans. Add a pair of heels and your favorite tote, and you'll take on the world in style.
Every few months, I'll devote an entire blog post to white sneakers. I still believe they're the most underrated shoes out there; and they'll never get the love they deserve.
I'm a classic keds girl at heart, but there are so many good options these days at all price points. Whether you choose slip-ons, runners, or platforms, pair them with a pair of ankle trousers for a casual but modern look.
Last but not least, the utility jacket. Not quite versatile as the denim jacket, it's still a timeless classic that transcends any and all fashion trends.
I love to pair my utility jackets with a colorful shirt or sweater. Style them with your favorite pair of denim or skirt for a familiar look. Or try wearing them with a maxi skirt for a slight boho chic look.
Happy Friday, gang! Fridays with Oscar looks a bit different this week as the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to the public today. Hooray! Good news is there are still some terrific items to shop for. The bad news is some items have already sold out. It happens every year… and don’t worry, Oscar decided to stop by for a mini photo shoot and he’ll be back next week along with a yummy recipe and cocktail. Today, I'm focusing on shopping Nordstrom's in-house brands with a few extra goodies sprinkled in for good measure.
One strategy I use to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is to shop my favorite brands. I love Vince, Theory, Spanx, Sweaty Betty, and AllSaints just as much as I love Nordstrom Made Brands that are oh so affordable: Zella, Caslon, Halogen, Open Edit, and Nordstrom Signature.
Today I'm focusing mostly on Nordstrom's in-house brands, which offer tons of value and affordability
I'm modeling a variety of items I picked up at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, all of which are shoppable via text and image-based widgets
Although we're departing this week from Fridays with Oscar, we'll be back next week with our regular scheduled programming
One of my favorite purchases this year is this faux leather trench from Open Edit. Trench coats always make my top 10 coat list due to their versatility. I love how this faux leather trench mimics the traditional version but with a twist. Good American is a denim brand I haven’t tried on for size until the Anniversary Sale.
Now that I have it I’m hooked. I liked the fit and I liked the weight of the denim. The reviews on the Nordstrom site are mixed with the straight leg raw hem jeans. Most reviews mentioned the waist was big and the thighs were tight but since I don’t have much of a waist and more slender legs the fit was perfect for me.
I purchased a pair of Open Edit shoes this spring for a trip to the Ritz Carlton. I liked them so much I purchased the Kya flat mule. Definitely, size down a half size. Again, the reviews are mixed with this shoe but I’ve worn them out and about and didn’t find them hard to walk in and didn’t notice the flapping sound. Maybe because I raised three boys and have the keen ability to tune out loud noises…
Boots and booties are always a good choice when it comes to shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This month I am working with Easy Spirt over on Instagram and I chose the Larime Bootie in brown leather. It also comes in black suede and black leather. If you want a comfortable shoe or boot head to Easy Spirit. They never let me down.
I picked up two sweaters from AllSaints this year. A lock mock neck and an oversized polo that look adorable paired with the Spanx Perfect Pant. Franco Sarto gifted these lug sole loafers that come in four colors. The lug sole is still trending this fall and winter so if you want to jump on the bandwagon now’s the time. I love the look and I love the comfort. Win/win!
Last but not least is this croc embossed faux leather blazer from Halogen that has a matching skirt. I love separates as you can wear them multiple ways but if you put the skirt and blazer together you have a modern suit. The skirt runs small so size up. I stuck with a size 8 but I wouldn’t take this skirt on vacation when I tend to eat whatever the heck I want and the skirt would be snug.
And I always have one or two skirts and pants hanging in my closet that keep me honest about my weight/size. Again, the reviews knocked the skirt due to pocket placement. I don’t get it as the pockets are placed on the seam and inconspicuous. Again, I didn’t notice anything weird. I dunno about these reviewers…
Oscar and I wish you a lovely weekend!
We're getting back to the basics on the blog. Yesterday, I shared with you my five essential fall basics sourced from the Nordstrom sale. Click the title or image below to read the article.
Happy Sunday, ladies! We've been talking about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale for a few weeks now over here on the blog. On Thursday, Kelly, Jess (our photographer), and I went to the sale in person. And today, Kelly and I want to share our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale dressing room diaries.
Super simple post today---more show than tell. Kelly and I have about a combined 20 or so items we brought home, all of which are modeled below. And we've actually modeled a lot of the same items to show you how they look both on (non-)petites.
Yesterday, the sale opened up to all influencers (i.e., Nordstrom cardmembers) and on July 15th it will open up to the general public. (For more details on how exactly to shop this slightly confusing sale, check out our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Primer). Most if not all of our picks below are still in stock, but if they're not, feel free to leave a comment below, and we'll see if we can round up a similar.

Happy Thursday, ladies! The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is underway. With temperatures soaring and people going and returning from vacation, it's really hard to get into that fall mindset that the sale really demands. After all, it's fall and winter-centric. But, because the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is so good for stocking up on the essentials, I thought I'd focus on just that: how to build an essential fall wardrobe from the sale.
For tonight's post, I'm focusing on 5 essential fall items:
These 5 items are must-haves for any fall wardrobe, and I'm really like the selection the sale has to offer this year. So, to keep things simple, I've structured the post into 5 sections for each item type above. In each section, I've pulled 5 different items from the sale I have my eye on. And finally, I've pulled an outfit together showing how to wear the item type.
What a mouth full. And what a project. But I think it's going to be worth it. So, join me now in imagining temperatures dropping as we slip into fall in July.
Today I'm building an essential Fall wardrobe from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
I'm focusing on 5 key items: leather jackets, sweaters, boots, ponchos, and sweater blazers.
For each item, I've put together a fall outfit featuring that item. Those outfits consist of both (non-)Anniversary sale items.
Also, for each item, I've picked 5 of my favorites from the Anniversary Sale.
Leather or suede jackets are the first items I reach for once the temperature drops. They’re classic, modern, and edgy all at the same time. They add instant chic to any outfit.
Don’t forget leather or suede jackets are an investment that will last a lifetime.
What is it about sweaters that make my heart go pitter-patter? Well, for one, they’re cozy, and they come in a variety of styles.
Sweaters can be oversized or slim-fitting, turtleneck or crew. What can I say, except they’re the perfect layering piece?
Every season, I try to add one pair of boots to my collection. Sock boots and over-the-knee boots are always great options.
Riding boots and booties are classics that are here to stay. But one of my all-time favorites is the Chelsea boot. Frye boots are always a good choice. They look fantastic with blue jeans.
Ponchos or ruanas are the perfect third layer for fall. The difference between a poncho and ruana is that a poncho is slipped overhead. in contrast, a ruana can slide over your shoulders.
Ponchos are loose-fitting, so there are lots of opportunities to layer up. One reason this makes the poncho an excellent piece to wear when the weather transitions.
Fall is full of in-between days when it’s too warm for a big jacket but not warm enough for your t-shirts. Pus, ponchos are perfect for any body type.
Knit blazers, half sweaters/blazers or cotigans are all fantastic layers that exude casual chic. Typically an oversized sweater blazer can layer over a bulky sweater with ease.
These are wardrobe staples I reach for time and time again. They also pair with gym clothes, pajamas, loungewear---anything and everything goes with these essentials.
Let’s get excited! It’s here! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here! Today, Kelly, Jennifer, and I are sharing our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview picks.
Plus, I've got a few more tips on how to shop the sale in case you missed our 2022 Nordstrom Aniversary Sale Primer.
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is an excellent time to shop the basics. I pick out a few favorite bras from Wacoal, panties from Hanky Panky or On Gossamer, and no-show socks from Zella. Activewear basics, beauty essentials, boots, denim, and sweaters are always on my shopping list. And handbags!
Then I narrow it down to categories. This is just the tip of the iceberg! Ha!
That's a wrap on our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview picks. Don’t forget to schedule your Personal Double Points Day! Love those Nordy Notes.
Consider paying for expedited shipping. Several years ago I learned a very hard lesson when I chose free shipping and couldn’t share my picks with my readers for a very. long. time. Now I don’t hesitate to pay extra for speedy delivery.
Buy online and shop in person. The selection is quite different on both platforms so I like to shop both.
Happy Sunday night, ladies! As I mentioned this morning, July is almost here, which means we're gearing up for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale over here at SAACA. As you probably know, this is one of the biggest clothing sales of the year. Nordstrom's new fall merchandise is on sale for the entire month of July. But there are a few things to be aware of, which is why we're publishing our 2022 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Primer.
A preview of the sale opens to the general public on June 29th. And although the actual sale begins July 6th and lasts through the 31st, shopping windows are based on your Nordy Club status.
I've shopped the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for years. Note that you can shop in-person or online during your available window. Here are some helpful tips I've picked up along the way.
