over on YouTube i’m kicking off july with a week’s worth of outfits. over here on the blog, i’ll guide you through each ootd that’s rooted in the classics. but what is classic style? and why do we love it? well, in a nutshell, it’s those closet staples you count on every day to solve those dressing dilemmas. like a breton top, crewneck sweater, button-down, a-line skirt, white shirt, and ballet flats. these are the items my wardrobe is founded on as they can be mixed and matched in a variety of ways. can you say versatile? timeless? how about ageless? style icons jackie kennedy onassis, grace kelly, audrey hepburn, and princess diana all rocked a classic look. so it appears we’re in good company ladies. but what about the brands that consistently produce great classic pieces? ralph lauren, j.crew, talbots, tommy hilfiger, lands’ end, brooks brothers and banana republic are a few of my favorites. and they’re all having a fantastic fourth of july sale!
here in georgia, there’s been rain and more rain. but we did manage to snap this photo while we filmed the YouTube segment. phew! notice how this outfit embodies classic style with a striped button-down, a-line skirt and ballet flats. take a look at princess diana’s version way back in the nineties.

a simple sheath dress by j.crew is updated with gold grommets. but otherwise, this classic staple is timeless as evidenced by jackie o.

Some wonderful outfits and a fun video. Please share the name of the lipstick you are wearing in the opening video. It is a beautiful pink coral and just what I am looking for this summer. Although my coloring is very different from yours (dark brown hair and eyes, pale skin) I think this color is flattering on just about anyone for the summer. I love how Oscar makes his presence known – he is quite the ham!!
I’m always the most attracted to clothes that are well-made and have lasting power. These all fit the bill. It’s fun to add in trendy pieces here and there, (and clothes-horse that I am, I do,) but my instinct is definitely for the classics. Those are the pieces that, twenty years later, in photos, don’t embarrass us, but look as if you could still wear them today. You look lovely in all of these.
Great post and I love your video:). Very inspirng – you are my style guru Beth! We don’t have a number of those American brands here in Poland that you wrote about (what a pity!). I will be in the States in September so it seems that “I have to” do some shopping;). Have a great day Beth, Renata
You are a classy and classic lady! Love how you tied in style icons with current fashions. Will have to subscribe to your YouTube channel…how did I miss that? xoxo
