President Biden will move into the white house with his trusty german shepherds by his side. but there’s one piece of equipment that poses a national security risk that didn’t make the grade. and do i feel sorry for our soon to be inaugurated president who appears to love hopping on his Peloton as much as i do! sure, there are lots of options when it comes to exercise these days. but none compares with a sweaty spin class. it’s my favorite way to stay in shape. while i could wear a ratty t-shirt and gym shorts while i furiously pedal to the beat, it’s much more fun to head to my virtual class decked out in gym gear with innovative comfort and performance technology. yep, i’m riding into 2021 with Peloton and Zella, one of my favorite athletic brands.
today we’re making a pitstop to my home gym. this is where you’ll find me on any given morning stretching, flexing, pumping iron, and hopping on the bike for a spin class. i’m committed to continuing my health journey for the new year. and i hope you’ll join me. no matter if i work out at home or head off to a Pilates class, i like to wear the proper gear that helps me strike a yoga pose with the ease of movement needed. today, i’m partnering with Nordstrom and their in-house brand Zella that carries an a-ma-zing selection of athletic wear that’s functional and stylish. at its heart, Zella athletic wear is designed with ultimate comfort innovation and peak performance technology that’s certain to enhance my workout and yours. now that’s a win/win in my book.
i’m always a sucker for a cardigan. this one is no exception. it’s perfect to slip into when the gym temps are chilly, and my body hasn’t quite adjusted. but cardi’s look fantastic when paired with a humble pair of blue jeans for a relaxed weekend look. i’ve linked a few of my favorites below. a pair of performance leggings (low stock similar here, here, and here) is a must-have for workouts, along with a sports bra and tank top.
exercise is important at any age but especially as we age. it’s how we will age with grace, strength, and beauty. but many of us give up on exercising altogether at a certain age. so let’s go over the benefits of keeping fit even at sixty-two. because who doesn’t want to feel their best each and every day? exercise is key to keeping me in tip-top health. besides riding into 2021 with Peloton and Zella these are the workouts i incorporate into my daily routine.
strength training targets multiple muscle groups, increases strength, and builds lean muscle. yoga improves flexibility, perfects posture, betters bone health, builds muscle, and on and on. cardio improves blood flow, increases stamina, and boosts your mood.
i’ve taken you on a tour of my home gym before, but i’ll share a few highlights. the floor is polished concrete, which is sooooo easy to maintain. all you need is a mop and a broom. and i never have to worry about spills. the walls are painted a light grey. i’ve even hung some cheerful artwork with splashes of pink and grey.
a few of my favorite things about Nordstrom.
leggings | sports bra | tank top | cardigan | socks
this year i added a big-screen television mounted on the wall. Peloton offers a variety of workouts from cycling to strength to yoga to cardio that i can incorporate into my routine from their app. flexibility, strength, and balance are so important to maintain as i move into my sixties. a daily workout is a non-negotiable for me.

WISH YOU WOULDN’T HAVE BROUGHT ANY POLITICS TO YOUR WEBSITE – YOU’VE SHOWN US GRACE AND STYLE IN YOUR BLOGS, BUT WITH THIS COUNTRY IN SO MUCH PAIN AND DIVISION, WE DIDN’T NEED YET ANOTHER REMINDER BETH OF THE MESS. DID YOU REALLY NEED TO PUT THAT IN THERE?
is referring to our president and his german shepherds (i am quite familiar with that breed) and his Peloton (my favorite piece of equipment) talking politics? loved watching George W. Bush’s dogs when he was in the White House. but if you think that’s talking politics who am i to change your mind.
Yes, it is. I understand, that with your popularity, this may be a bit harsh. But there are many, many, many people out there with the same breed of dog (me included) and a love for peloton, but come on Beth, this is a bit beneath you, especially since there are a lot of conservatives that are hurting and now being threatened by news media and politicians everywhere. This was a bit of a slap in the face and a bit insensitive – don’t you think?
then we will have to agree to disagree – a lost art.
A lost art . . .yes indeed! Many a Democrats lost long ago – btw, smooth and coy !
leaving my subscription with your blog.
I agree. I felt the exact same way as the previous poster comment. I don’t feel any reference to a politician is necessary at this time. Dogs and exercise equipment is one thing but our country is hurting and extremely divided. I have tuned out most social media to avoid this topic at this time. Any comment on Mr. Biden wasn’t something I want see when I read your fashion blog Beth. If it happens again, unfortunately, I also will unsubscribe
long gone are the days when Tip O’Neill and President Reagan agreed to disagree over a scotch. hopefully, America can regain her footing.
She was talking about her favorite breed of dogs and exercise machines being in the White House. I enjoyed this blog post immensely. Lighten up.
You go Beth !
love my Peloton! and i’m enjoying many of the other classes they offer too.
Be aware that Peloton has been overselling bikes for many months now. This has been reported in national media. Our household purchased a peloton in October and our delivery date has been postponed twice. we have now been given a tentative delivery date in March. According to public reports, this is a common experience.
Peloton can’t keep up with demand since the pandemic hit. it’s been an ongoing issue for close to a year. but if you can get on the waiting list good for you! best form of exercise.
I agree with the two previous comments Beth. Even mentioning the incoming president in this climate brings up very unsettled feelings. There would have been much more appropriate examples to reference. Very passive aggressive and somewhat of a “dig.”
But it’s your blog. Continue on.
if that is your perception i completely understand.
Yes, felt like an insult and passive aggressive dig. First post by Beth that I absolutely hated
it’s truly heartbreaking that mentioning the name of the President of the United States causes distress.
It does not bring up unsettled feelings for everyone who reads the blog, unless, of course, you feel this blog caters to you and you only.
Hi Beth
I love your blog and how much you encourage us older gals.
I did not find your commment about President Biden’s Peloton offensive or political for that matter.
Keep on inspiring us!
it’s good to know presidents have an interest in working out!
Keep doing what you are doing Beth. I thought your comment was neutral and did not take offense. This is a challenging time for everyone and I think we all need to take a breath and give people the benefit of the doubt. Having followed you for a while, I did not think that your intent was to be political. Given your affinity for German Shepards and Peloton, it made sense.
and i do love both!
Hi Beth, thank you for all your marvelous posts. You do a fabulous job, watch on YouTube, also. People need to get s grip- I mean really…..I for one welcome our new President & gorgeous wife. 😊
awww, a YouTuber! love that channel. thanks so much for stopping by.
Hi Beth,
Unlike other readers, I took no political gain or loss from your post. The fact that you and our President Elect have a love of German Shepherds and Peloton in common is just that, something in common. I don’t happen to have either but take no offense with the post. You look great and share health and wellness inspiration today. Thanks!
health and wellness are so important at any age but especially as we age. let’s continue to look for the commonalities in life!
That’s a really nice home gym and your workout gear looks lovely. I wish I had your discipline. Any mention of animals brings a smile to my face, but the suggestion that Biden is able to exercise in any form (he can barely walk) is a hoot! Thank you for this touch of humor!
anytime, kathleen!
I felt bad for President Biden when I read that for security reasons he would not be able to use his Peloton in the White House. It is unimaginable that anyone could be offended by your reference to our new president, his Peloton, and his German Shepherds. Good grief!
thanks for your sweet words, susan.
For me, 2021 will be a year of healing and renewal. I appreciate your blogs about health and self care. I now recognize that I took so many people and activities for granted. We need to celebrate life every day. The pandemic brought so much stress and suffering to so many.
Thank you for sharing so many thoughtful ideas to keep us motivated.
you are so very welcome, jan. thanks for being here.
Hello Beth,
I did not find your post political. You were just mentioning a common fact you share with the president. Its just like anyone saying that they have once gambled at Taj Mahal Casino. So sorry that people have lost the art of; agree to disagree.
As always, I enjoy reading your posts. I can feel the positivity and energy oozing out of your blog. Stay happy amd healthy. ❤️💕
happy 2021!
I saw no political reference! And mention of dog and exercise equipment do not indicate politics…. I was interested in exercise clothes…
thanks so much, esther!
Beth,
Love your blog and also follow you on Instagram and You Tube. Really appreciate your focus on being the best you can be at all times – even when dressing for the home gym! I value looking for our commonalities and finding ways to see each other as human beings. I learned something. Did not know about President Biden’s Peloton. Great post. As always, appreciate you! Pam
i truly have the best readers in the world!
I happen be a conservative however I found nothing offensive or political about your comments. I read it as just a comment to introduce the topic of the day. We have a new president and we should come together and support him. We must learn to respect each other’s opinion without all the discord.
i’ve always believed we support and respect our elected officials whether we voted them in or out of office.
Beth,
Your post was just fine and if your followers can not handle a sentence or two about our new presidents dogs and his love for Peloton, well then they can unsubscribe.
Some people are overly sensitive and hurt. They will heal and we as a country will carry on.
Maybe Biden should donate his bike to our president who has 12 hours left. Peloton is very addicting. He might like it.
our country has modeled for the world how to peacefully transition power. and we will continue to do so. it’s what makes us great.
Thanks for the great fitness inspiration, Beth! More than a few of us are suffering from stress weight gain this year.
Fitness is good for our physical bodies, but also, for people’s immune systems and most importantly for our mental health. Well, and let’s face it, Oscar delivers a generous dose of chicken soup for the soul every Friday.
Your posts keep me balanced – something the entire world needs right now, a reliable anchor. Grace in the face of adversity. Hugs 🌷
always love to hear from you, andrea.
I rarely comment so I thought this might be a good day to say how much I admire your style and grace! It is evident how hard you work on this blog. I really appreciate what you do.
i so appreciate you being here!
Another Beth supporter here.
I’ve never commented on any fashion blog before.
No matter who’s riding the peloton-
the president is the president for all of us…hopefully i’ll be buying clothes again this year
thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!
How wonderful to have a president – of any party – who values their health and who loves dogs. I fail to see how commenting on someones pets and exercise regimes is in any way political.
As someone who is really missing the gym (I struggle to work out alone and was about 7 months in to going to Orangetheory when the pandemic hit – the sense of community there is fantastic), thank you for highlighting what looks to be a great range of exercise clothing.
Please oh please. It’s dogs and a piece of gym equipment. Far bigger things to hurt feelings than that. Let’s not look for every excuse possible to take things personally. Standing together is a wonderful thing. Thank you Beth for all you share with us.
So when I exercise at home, I wear old clothes, sometimes old pajamas. I always tell my children to dress well for work and honor their occupation. Perhaps as a retiree, I should honor my fitness routine. I think I’ll upgrade my exercise clothes.
it makes a difference! love how you suggested you should honor your fitness routine.
What is a good makeup sponge or foundation blender?
i love a motorized blender call BlendSmart or IT Cosmetics has a nic foundation brush.
