when i spied this cute botanical a-line skirt from Talbots, i knew a striped tee would be the perfect companion. the muted colors (india Ink, ivory, imperial blue, shocking pink, coral reef and dry sage) will transition beautifully from summer to fall. what i love most about a brightly patterned skirt is that you can easily change the outfit by changing the top. with a wide range of colors to choose from the options are endless. but i do love t-shirts, especially during the hot summer months. a bateau neckline is a flattering choice for most body types as it elongates the neck and shoulders.
Talbots is known for turning out summer skirts with fun colorful patterns and bright prints. and i snag one or two every year. again, an a-line silhouette is a flattering choice for most women as the shape is designed to thin the appearance of the hips. it’s narrow at the waist then widens towards the hem creating the shape of the letter A. this timeless classic was introduced by Christian Dior in the mid-fifties and has stood the test of time due to its simple and unfussy nature.

Very nice! This stripe/floral combo looks great on you and when I see similar mix on others. But for some reason when I try it on in a dressing room it just doesn’t look “right” on me. I know it must be me. 😏
Pretty colors. I think I saw a long sleeveless dress in a similar pattern and it appealed to me, too. The stripes in the top are small enough and subtle enough to look great with the skirt, and the colors are perfect.
Love the pattern mix!! Show creativity and confidence.
Beautiful! It manages to be classic and trendy at the same time. I’m always on the lookout for outfits that are a little bit different. Awesome!
Love it! I love color and interesting patterns. Wish I could wear a skirt that length.
Hello Beth,
You styled that skirt and top perfectly. I think we are all a bit nervous about mixing patterns.
I recently wrote a blog post on Ageless Style relating some guides to follow when mixing patterns.
