My Favorite Casual Summer Outfits

Happy Friday, ladies!  Today is my birthday, and I’m 64.  Hard to believe, honestly.  Time truly does fly.  It’s actually birthday week for the Djalalis.  Both my oldest and youngest have birthdays this week too, and we’re all getting together tomorrow for a big birthday dinner.  Can’t wait.

To celebrate (and because it’s Friday) I’m rounding up my 5 favorite casual Summer outfits from this year’s Fridays with Oscar.  I know Summer is winding down, but I’m not quite ready to let it go.  So, I also thought this would be a fun way to send off the Summer in style.

1. Watermelon Margaritas

Today’s outfit features a pair of wide-leg seaside pants from J.Crew.  I’ve worn a lot of wide-leg pants this year, a trend I’ve happily embraced.  It’s a dramatic shift, from say the late 2010s when skinny pants and leggings were all the rage.

A few tips to ease yourself into the trend:

• When in doubt, where a form-fitting shirt.
• Tuck in your shirt, especially a button-down to elongate your body.
• During transition season, wear a cropped jacket for correct proportions.

2. Raspberry Mojito

Yup, just like blacks, whites, and beiges, animal print functions as a neutral.  Today’s zebra-print Ramie utility shirt is from Banana Republic, who might I add is absolutely killing it this year.

The shirt is great and works with just about anything you want to throw at it:  white pants, black shorts, a tan maxi skirt.  So many ways to style the top.  And don’t be afraid to add a color pop for extra visual interest!

3. Cosmo

On a hot summer day, there’s nothing better than a dress. It’s one and done – no muss, no fuss. Just how I like it. The striped shirt dress is from Ann Taylor and is lined which is a bonus for those of us who wonder if we need to wear a slip.

I slipped into a pair of white sandals although I was tempted to wear red. I exchanged the self tie belt with one from my closet, added a few accessories and this outfit of the day is complete. Didn’t I tell you dresses are easy to wear?

4. Classic Negroni

The heat has been hovering in the mid-90s, so I’m keeping my cool in a cute pair of khaki shorts from Banana Republic and a dolman sleeve sweater. If you’re not a fan of shorts, simply swap them for linen pants or a skirt. Lots of choices when it comes to beating the heat with style in the 21st century..

Why am I a fan of shorts at 63? It’s simple! My mom wore shorts her entire life. You tend to follow suit when your style icon rocks a particular outfit. But style is always what you feel confident wearing, so feel free to substitute.

5. Dirty Gin Martini

Today’s OOTD has several items from Talbots: linen joggers (limited sizes in white similar here), bateau neck tee, and cotton weave tote. The cotton/ linen cardi hails from J.Crew and a pair of neutral sandals (similar here and here) that go with everything. Earrings and bangles are simple accessories that always jazz up an outfit.
