What do we wish to change, need to add, to spice up our place settings, cocktail hour with bar accessories, napkins, picks etc., or dessert buffet, in place of dessert at the dining table?
Dinnerware is so festive when you play with it!
Your holiday table can be inspired by a color or a single plate!!
Do you want to change the entire color scheme, yet use the same Dinner Plates? Let’s consider changing the Dessert - Salad Plates. They are one of the easiest and most charming ways to change the look of your entire table, personalizing it!
Usually 8 or 9”, they are needed for both salad and dessert (unless you have a soup course, then a Rim Soup can be a nice alternative – also great for salads or desserts, that have sauces.)
So, it’s fun to have a selection of different ones. Your rimmed dinnerware takes on a totally different life!! What fun!!
They could all be the same for salad, then a different design/pattern for dessert.
Alternatively, you could set the table, with every other setting with a different design.
Sets also make wonderful gifts, too! Many come in 4 or pairs. This might be the time for a holiday pattern, without investing in the entire set!
The same could be done with Appetizer or Canapé Plates. Their other role is the traditional Bread-and-Butter Plate at the place setting. They are wonderful for wine – cheese parties.

These little charmers have a myriad of uses – at about 6 inches in size; they are also lovely gifts. Many patterns are open stock as well, if they are part of a dinnerware pattern, so you could give a pair, or set in any number you wish! This is also true of dessert/salad plates.
Many fashion Design Houses are creating dinnerware these days that could be adapted for beautiful holiday tables: Toile de Jouy from the Dior Maison, Hermes’ Balcon du Guadalquivir inspired by Spanish iron balconies or tropical Passifolia porcelain.

Oscar de la Renta’s floral Coralina was inspired by a gown from the couturier’s 2006 collection and Dolce & Gabbana’s Blu Mediterraneo from Italy’s famed tiles. All dinnerware becomes festively gorgeous with evergreens!!
If geometrics are on your mind…Wedgwood’s Renaissance could be chic in Red or Blue, Gio Gold would also be quite modern. Quality comes in all colors and good design!!

Another way to change the table color scheme, yet use the same dinnerware is your choice of linens. Sferra has a fabulous range of colors in solid Hemstitch or Festival design. Solid textured, sateen damask, Plume, is a little dressier and quite beautiful. These are two favorites! You might also have inherited linens, collect them or want to find something new!
Whatever you decide, it is always lovely to have a natural fiber napkin…and oh, so beautiful for the holidays. There may still be time to monogram some, one of my favorites to give ~ and so personal!
Quality paper is fine for cocktails, finger food, the kiddie table and large groups. Caspari has beautiful quality and designs, printed in Europe. I love adding them in my holiday packages. They are always a little smile…and so useful!
