okay, gang, today i’m sharing my fitness update. many of you remember that at the beginning of 2018 i set a goal to be in the best shape of my life when my 60th birthday arrived in august. but i needed help! the previous year i had put on weight and skipped the gym one too many times. so i enrolled in FASTer Way to Fat Loss a six-week online fitness program created by Amanda Tress. The FASTer Way to Fat Loss teaches how to fuel your body and maintain energy throughout the day while you naturally burn fat. it’s a proven method of restructuring and repairing your metabolic system and increasing your metabolism – something that many of us struggle with since hitting menopause and beyond!
it’s funny, but the initial six-week stint turned into twelve then turned into a VIP membership where the members take a deeper dive into topics like a healthy gut or detoxing your system. while i have a long way to go on my fitness journey – yes it takes longer to get back into shape at 59 as opposed to 39 – i’m happy to share my ‘wins’ with you each month.
since we’re smack dab in the middle of swimsuit season i thought i’d take a stab at a dreaded topic once we turn a ‘certain age.’ then again, most women of any age feel a little angst when it comes to time spent at the beach or pool. and shopping for a swimsuit that makes us look our very best. once we shed our clothes and step in front of a mirror clad only in a one or two-piece suit, it’s all too easy to scrutinize every inch of our bodies. our eyes are immediately drawn to those parts that need improvement. believe me when you hit sixty years and beyond there will always be one part of our bodies that need attention. eyes grow dimmer, joints become stiffer, and teeth aren’t a brilliant shade of white without a little help. it’s all about maintenance these days. and exercise is a key component to keeping my body fine tuned. use it or lose it and that goes for our muscles. but we can’t forget about proper nutrition as exercise and the right diet go hand in hand.
since i’ve regularly hit the gym the past six months and consistently tracked my macros slipping into a swimsuit this year and accessing my body wasn’t half bad. i actually noticed my lumps and bumps are turning into muscle which is a major victory. i guess those sweaty workouts are paying off one day at a time. for those of us who think the ‘ship has sailed’ when it comes to looking and feeling our best even in a swimsuit, we might want to reevaluate those thoughts. of course, nothing comes easy. it takes an effort to make it to the gym and pump some iron. and i’m not going to lie and say my joints don’t creak and squeak even with a regular exercise regimen. but i will say i’m feeling far more energetic than six months ago, and i can’t wait to see what the next six months have in store. i think it’s safe to say my fitness journey is well underway but far from finished.
