Happy Monday, gang! No singing the blues here, as I’m decked out in head-to-toe neutrals. Winter white or ivory is a perfect color scheme to reach for during the gray and dreary months of January and February. We're continuing with a topic I started last week: monochromatic dressing. Embracing the monochromatic trend is a chic, fashion-forward formula with many benefits.
A monochromatic outfit is created with just one color. "Mono" means one, and "chromo" means color or pigment. The good news is that it can be any color: black, navy, grey, pink, red, or yellow. The list goes on and on, so go ahead and pick your favorite color and start experimenting. Monochromatic outfits can be casual or dressy, worn any time of year (pastels in the spring and autumnal tones in the fall), and don’t require much effort.
If you want to make a statement at work, try a monochrome look in the office. An all-white look with trousers and a blazer is a stunning contrast to your ho-hum outfit because workwear can be boring. But again, if you have all the pieces to put together an all-black outfit or all-navy outfit, then go shop your closet. That’s the best shopping spree ever!
Today, we're embracing the monochromatic trend with an all-white outfit
I'm featuring a great pair of wide-leg pants from Ann Taylor
The pants are modeled, and I put together 2 alternates

Today’s OOTD starts with high-waisted pants from Ann Taylor. I’ve said it once but I’ll say it again Ann makes some of the most comfortable and flattering pants I’ve ever owned.
I shop at this retailer repeatedly because Ann Taylor has an excellent selection of blazers, and I typically have at least one hanging in my closet. One tip in putting together a monochromatic outfit is to bring in different textures.
Notice how the ribbed turtleneck, slubby blazer, and trousers add visual interest, depth, and dimension. But the BIG bonus of a monochromatic outfit is that it creates a seamless look from head to toe that visually elongates your body and looks trés chic.

You always look fabulous and so put together in your posts. I have to admit that I am not a blazer person. They had their place when I was still working, but now I find them to be way too fussy and confining. I prefer a more casual look or if I am dressing up a bit, I like a dress. I won’t say they are frumpy because Ralph Lauren does that look so well. Or he used to. Nothing better than a navy blazer and some cool trousers. But that is only every now and then for me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Marsha. I love blazers because they are that third layer that instantly elevates an outfit. But style is always about personal choice.
Thanks, Beth, you look awesome. I’m a Talbots girl but will take another look at AT. I haven’t visited in many years. I have an ivory monochromatic outfit I wear to holiday events (with a touch of gold metallic) and always get compliments. Tonight I have a work-related event and will wear mono-black. Your post inspired me!
Say hi to Oscar!
Hi Carolina Girl! Thanks for stopping by. You’re ivory outfit with a hint of metallics sounds gorgeous. Have tonight!
Hi Beth, please do a grey taupe monochromatic look. I would appreciate your recommendation on items in this color scheme which I find interesting because it can look more warmer taupe or more cooler gray depending on the lighting.
Thanks for the suggestion, Julie!
What a beautiful winter white look. Blazers are the icing on an outfit whether it’s dressing up or down. Unlike a sweater it’s seems more intentional and finished and can take you anywhere. My favorites are from Sun Kim (sadly no longer making under that label) done in a classic but longer cut in a nylon fabric that can be folded into nothing and packed easily. They make any outfit fab!
Blazers are that third layer that instantly elevates your outfit. Thanks for stopping by!
Monochromatic dressing has always been one of my favorite ways to dress. At only 5’2” for me it creates a seamless long line for that flawless, oh so chic, look that I absolutely adore! A monochromatic winter white outfit is definitely swoon worthy.
And, of course, Beth all of your monochromatic looks you showcased today are beautiful, elegant and chic.
Hi Michelle! Monochromatic outfits visually lengthen our bodies and add inches. One of the best style tips – ever! Thanks for stopping by.
Just loved watching you over and over again Ms.Beth.
Do the Ann Taylor pants fit true to size? I wear size 6 in Talbot’s pants.
Ann Taylor has a slimmer fit than Talbots, but I wear a size 8 in both brands. Talbots is just a bit roomier than Ann.
ok, thank you!
You look stunning and polished in this white monochromatic outfit! Thanks for the informative post on how to pull this look off stylishly!
I’m so happy to hear you found the post informative. And I just love, love, love winter white. It’s simplicity in motion. Thanks for stopping by!
I really like this look and outfit you put together. I just got these slacks two weeks ago and have the similar blazer from Ann Taylor from last Spring. Can hardly wait to wear this look. You look so chic. I liked the all black outfit last week also.
I love these winter white pants. You’re right, Sherry, a monochromatic outfit is trés chic.
Chrome actually means color, not light:
borrowed from French chrôme, borrowed from Greek chrôma “color.”
You look wonderful!
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We had a typo as we meant chromo not chrome meaning color, pigment, or light. Thanks for stopping by.
Beth you look stunning in your winter white outfit. I enjoy your fashion ideas and travel adventures..
