All month long we are in love…with celebration and sentiment! With Lunar New Year, Valentine’s Day and Film Awards, we are all celebrating!! Celebrating is one of my favorite things!

Celebrating warms a very dreary weather month, no matter where you live.
The promise and anticipation of spring encourages us to begin anew…refreshing, budding again!
Art and design are always fresh inspiration.
I happened upon a lovely volume in this month’s The World of Interiors.
Art in Flower, celebrates the creative works of diverse artists. Lindsey Taylor, Wall Street columnist, delves into our ability to interpret for ourselves. It suggests that “through this meditative practice of looking intently at art and nature, readers learn, in the words of David Hockney, ‘to really look,’ and to really see the world.”
This month, it seems perfect…coupling love of celebration with art and flowers!!
Visiting museums or your own library of art books on a chilly - rainy - snowy day can be a lovely, rejuvenating pastime.
The joy of being inspired by them has influenced numerous, annual Art in Bloom exhibitions from February to June at museums across the country: Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Portland, St. Louis, to Florida and beyond. Bouquets to Art 2024 at San Francisco’s deYoung Museum is in its 40th year!

Creating floral arrangements can be fun too. Doing something creative every day, is good for the soul!
Artworks can also inspire our own artistic floral designs, no matter how humble. Using single blooms, or profusions of them in any of the wide varieties of containers - vessels can uplift our spirts and every room in our homes!
Some of our greatest artists and photographers throughout the world have been fascinated with nature’s gorgeous blossoms.
What work of art or artist inspires you? Might it be Robert Mapplethorpe Tulips, David Hockney Peonies or Irises, Claude Monet Waterlilies, Irving Penn Lilies or Georgia O’Keeffe Orchids, Pierre-Joseph Redouté Roses, or Renoir’s Wildflowers?? Maybe all…like me!

Many of today’s publications on floriography show the history of flowers and their meanings, through museum collections, gardens, as well as through artist’s works, past and present. Many volumes on the subject create opportunities to learn through a new “lens.”
Each flower has a meaning…each month has a special flower too!! Artist Robert Furber (C.1674-1756) created a beloved series with a gorgeous arrangement in urn for every month!
How charming is it to create your own tableau with personal meaning…. especially celebrating your special valentine!!
