fridays with oscar | apple tart and prosecco smash

loft striped dress

they say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. and there’s no better time to add apples into your baking repertoire than apple season. this time of year the apples are at their peak and soooo delicious.

the heat in georgia refuses to relent but an easy peasy apple tart sounds like the perfect dessert for hot or cool weather. this recipe is from Patti La Belle and requires only 1 tablespoon of sugar. that’s a win/win as i try to keep sugar to a minimum.

oh, oscar…

prosecco smash

what’s on deck for cocktails this week? a delicious Prosecco Smash from the talented Half-Baked Harvest blog. love her cookbook Half-Baked Harvest Recipes from the Barn. be warned this cocktail is sweet what with the addition of figs and plums. but it’s yummy nonetheless. and the perfect accompaniment to an apple tart.

love this striped shirtdress from Loft. i don’t know why but it’s been ages since i’ve shopped the Loft. but i’m glad i stopped in. so many cute things! this dress will transition nicely into fall. but today it’s styled for our ninety-degree weather with a pair of sandals (old, similar here) from Tory Burch. the shirt dress comes with a self-tie belt but i exchanged it for one of mine (old, similar here). stay tuned next week where you’ll see an ootd that utilizes this dress in a different way.

Yum! I love making a free form tart. They are so no-pressure, and they always look like comfort food to me, (and they usually are!) I’ve made them with all different fruits, too. This looks like a great recipe–I love the notion of the sour cream mixture in it. Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope you get a chance to relax some, Beth. I can feel fall in the air–still warm here, but the light is different, and fall is starting here in NC. My favorite season, I think…

Hi Beth – I also live in Georgia, up in the mountains in Ellijay, (Gilmer County). (However, we’re packing up to move back to Missouri – it’s home and my son is there.) Anyway, Gilmer County is known as the “Apple Capital” of GA. There are several Apple Barns/orchards here and they going into high gear now. The varieties are incredible. There are several wineries, also. Both make terrific weekend trips. (Don’t miss Blue Ridge, about 13 miles north on Hwy. 515. Great shopping and an excursion train.) Lots of cabins in the area to rent. The ‘Apple Festival’ is held the 2nd & 3rd weekends in October in Ellijay. Thousands of people pour in from everywhere…traffic is terrible, but it’s fun. We went once, but now leave it to the tourists. Attached is a link for you and your other readers. So glad to see you looking better, I know it’s hard. God bless and Warmest regards, Cindy https://www.georgiaapplefestival.org/
