Happy Friday, gang. The long Memorial Day Weekend has arrived! Summer is finally here (at least unofficially) and with it sunshine, blue skies and lazy days. The first blush of summer is my favorite time of the year. Kelly stopped by today to help kick off the weekend with an ice cream sundae station and we made a boozy milkshake too! It’s an easy way to entertain friends and family during the summer months or a fun way to end a backyard barbecue. So today we’re having a Memorial Day Ice Cream Social.
The Georgia temps heat up quickly so I savor each and every day below ninety degrees. To be honest, this spring has been quite mild, and seen a thunderstorm or two blow through town. This past week spent on Tybee was exceptionally mild. This weekend is only supposed to be in the seventies. I’ll take it! And I will give a shoutout to Tybee’s restaurant scene as one of the local favorites Sundae Cafe was featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

Beth’s Outfit: A festive memorial day look
It’s time to dig out my patriotic decorations, hang the bunting, and raise my flag on the flagpole. While Memorial Day Weekend is filled with picnics, parades, and time spent at the pool we can’t forget what Memorial Day is all about – remembering our veterans that lost their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day started years ago to honor the soldiers who died in the Civil War. It was originally named Decoration Day from the early tradition of decorating graves with flowers, wreaths, and flags. In 1971 Congress passed a bill that established that Memorial Day was to be commemorated on the last Monday in May.
If you have a loved one who served in the military and is still alive thank them for their duty, but it’s so important for us to remember that Memorial Day is set aside to honor those men and women who died for our country. The cost of freedom is high.

Kelly’s Outfit: Blue and White
You can create a fun and festive Memorial Day outfit just by wearing the colors associated with the holiday. Today I am wearing the Gamine Cotton Poplin Shirt in the blue and white mermaid floral print, from J.Crew.

The white Button-fly Denim Short from Banana Republic is such a perfect separate for summer. They’re practically one-and-done because they will go with all kinds of tops and shoes or sandals for summer.
I have my Striped Lace-up Espadrilles from J.Crew Factory back in action today. I could have gone with a neutral shoe, but I like to pattern mix!
Boozy Milkshake
This quick and easy boozy milkshake is a fun way to make your Memorial Day ice cream social more adult-friendly. You can use your favorite ice cream flavor. We went with mint chip, for a Grasshopper-like dessert cocktail.
Top with whipped cream and let your guests top the finished drink with whatever sundae toppings they choose.
How to Set up an ice cream sundae bar
Setting up an ice cream sundae bar for your ice cream social is simple. Go for fewer flavors of ice cream, but offer a variety of fun toppings and ice cream vehicle options. Add some festive American flags and your Memorial Day Ice Cream Social will be a hit!
Offer up waffle cones, waffle cone bowls and regular sundae glasses so your guests can have their sundae just how they like it.
American Flags | Melamine Solo Cups | Festive Paper Napkins | Wooden Star Tabletop Decoration | Red White and Blue Goodie Box | Glass Dessert Bowls | Fluted Ice Cream Bowls | 4-oz. Porcelain Ramekins | Ice Cream Spoons
Oscar, Kelly, and I wish you all a lovely weekend!

Yesterday, I shared 5 Memorial Day Outfits. Click the title or image below to read the article.
Awwww. Look at Oscar, he’s getting very distinguish with his gray! ๐ He looks nice and slim, has he been on a doggie diet? My Shepperd is starting to get the gray under his muzzle. He’s six years old and a bit too “fluffy”. I need to put him on a doggie diet! How old is Oscar?
Love the outfit, very Memorial day appropriate and patriotic!
