has anyone ventured into banana republic lately? this iconic brand has been more misses than hits in recent years but i’m happy to report they are having a fashion moment. the classic store i once loved seems to have returned to their roots in a fresh and modern way. of course, there is a sale going on all weekend long.
i couldn’t resist these red checker pants. but there was a cute pair of polka dot pants that are on my radar. and these linen chambray were a lovely shade of blue. all perfect colors for a patriotic outfit.
the top is an ultra simple frayed edge tweed shell. but this drapey vee top in a gorgeous shade of red is perfect for the fourth. i also liked this cute blue striped top here that would look darling with white bermudas or white denim.
take a look at our tablescape. originally, oscar and i wanted to share our front porch that’s definitely ready to usher in the long weekend. but guess what? rain and more rain is in the forecast.
so when the going gets tough we take our barbecue plans inside where it’s nice and dry. this is just a dry run for the fourth so i’ll need to steam the striped tablecloth. i picked this one up at t.j.maxx a few months ago thinking it would be perfect for summer entertaining. i think i like it. secretly, oscar is bummed we’re taking photos inside and decided to stick his head out the doggie door once more to check to see if the rain stopped. ha!
oscar is sporting a spiffy bandana. but i think i might try and find one with a flag motif. or one with more red, white, and blue in it. should i share one of mine? it might work.
as you can see oscar is quite inquisitive and likes monitor every detail. do you think he approves? growing up there was always sparklers to twirl once dusk set in. so i’m setting out a pack or two at each place setting for a little after dinner fun.
mason jars are so versatile. here, they are pulling double-duty as glasses. but i use them for dessert, decorating, anything i can think of.
check back in on the fourth where i’ll share a few recipes i’ll be whipping up. and maybe just maybe the rain will dissipate and we’ll be dining outdoors. can you believe it? it is the last day of june. the year is half gone, ladies… but it’s friday, so we’ll try not to be too sad.
oscar and i wish each of you a lovely weekend! be safe wherever your plans take you.

You both look very patriotic ????. Do the fireworks bother him?
Oscar looks spiffy. Our dog used to freak out over fireworks–and thunder. We’d find him quivering in the back reaches of the walk-in closet, clutching one of our socks close by for comfort. So sad. I read an article about calming pets down for the 4th.
Great red/white/blue mix here. Think how lush all the rain will make things! I just yesterday got those striped shoes out for the year and remembered how much I loved ’em last season. They’re pretty. Happy 4th! Hope the sun shows up and you and Oscar can enjoy the great outdoors. You both look great and ready for the holiday!
I used to go to Banana Republic frequently and once purchased a lovely silk pantsuit which was altered for free and a couple of pretty “Mad Men” lace tops. In the last few years, I agree, the quality went down and I would never pay full price there because there were sales every other day. That being said, I did get a couple of simple black t shirts for the gym this week at a fabulous price (under $5).
Your table looks so festive and what a wonderful photo of Oscar looking so pensive. Enjoy a happy July 4th Holiday!
I like the simplicity of your outfit and love the tablescape. I have dishes with soft grey stars on the rim and lots of patriotic themed napkins etc. My mom found the dishes at a rummage sale. They were the dinnerware used on the Stat Steamship line. I like the story of those dishes and it’s a great conversation starter. Happy 4th! We are so blessed to live in the USA!
You look very cool and festive! Love your table…the view from your porch is very nice. Did Oscar ask what was on the menu? There are many dogs as well as some service personnel who would prefer no fireworks, thank you very much. My heart goes out to military folks this time of year. Enjoy your Fourth! xoxo
