The weather in Georgia has been flirting with springtime temps, so it’s time to think about my spring wardrobe. I can’t believe the first day of spring is two weeks away. While our moods may be bright with the infusion of sunshine and blue skies that spring brings, dark clouds are swirling in other parts of the world.
Style at a Certain Age has made it a practice to focus on aging with grace, strength, and beauty and will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months. That’s the purpose of this platform, not religion nor politics—although I have my viewpoints with both.
But I am very much aware of world events that have transpired this past week and have watched the devastation unfold. Horrifyingly, wars have been breaking out for thousands of years, wreaking havoc on the daily lives of innocent men, women, and children. It’s heartbreaking to watch refugees pack their lives in small bags and flee for their lives, not knowing what will come to pass. In the twentieth century, alone, two World Wars were fought with the hope of ending future wars. But it didn’t come to pass.
My late husband’s family lost everything in the 70s when they fled Iran to start a new life in America.
I grew up with the nightly news reporting the casualties of the Vietnam War. The Gulf War broke out when I was a young mother, and the Iraq War followed on its heels. Then there was the Afghanistan War…
Please know that my heart aches for all the innocent men, women, and children caught in the crossfire of the latest conflict in Ukraine. My hope and my prayers are for peace.
~Beth
If it’s spring, then it’s time to lighten and brighten my wardrobe. What better way to do just that than with a nautical vibe from the Talbots Spring collection. Shades of navy and white look crisp and clean and perfect for a warm spring day. I couldn’t resist this pair of white wide-leg denim from Talbots (fit TTS—I’m wearing a size 8 for reference) and striped funnel neck top (I’m wearing a size medium for reference) that’s helping me feel a bit nauti.
Style tip: Look for details that add interest.
white denim | striped top | shoes (similar here, here, and here) | handbag (old, similar here, here, and here) | similar sunglasses | earrings | watchband | bangle
But if you want to add a pop of color certain to brighten your day and daresay your mood, then pick a color of your liking. Me? I’m a firm believer every woman should own a pair of red shoes (old, similar here, here, and here), so I chose red as my accent color. In for a penny in for a pound, as my mother liked to say, so I added a red handbag (old, similar here, here, and here) into the mix.

We’re in the Spring transition phase over here at SAACA. This week we’ve featured:

Great looking slightly nautical and you just carry it off wonderfully. Love the red shoe and bag accent too!
Love your look head to toe! Talbots is my favorite retailer, so you had me at your subject line!
Thanks and have a great day.
Thank you for making that statement, Beth. A few people whose sites I follow have chosen not to comment at all, but given the enormity of what’s happening, that seems weird to me, so thank you for saying what so many of us are feeling right now.
Beth, I thoroughly enjoy your post every day. I’m 79 and like to stay current as much as my wallet will allow. My late husband was also from Iran, left there in 1959 to attend college here knowing full well he would not return except to visit. I share your views on war. Thank you for this blog, it is very helpful.
Beth, I am a loyal Talbot’s shopper. Thus, enjoyed your post for today. You always look fresh and certainly on top of fashion. Also, thank you for your statement at the beginning of the post about our need for world peace. On these days of darkness we need to share such positive thoughts of concern. Also, please know I’m enjoying your new posting of Daily Looks.
I am also a loyal reader of your post, Beth.
You have given me encouragement to present myself at my best even though I’m considered “ over the hill” by many. I applaud your statement on world peace. It saddens me to witness we human beings inflict so much pain and suffering on each other. I join you in prayers.
One of your fellow blogers, whom I also read, posted a link to the World Central Kitchen for donations to help feed he Ucranian refugees . Perhaps this would be a help for your readers. There has never been a time when there was not a war somewhere in he world since I was born. It must stop!
I mispelled Ukraine in my last comment here. My apologies. I meant no offense, sorry.
I appreciate your comments about Ukraine. As a consumer, I am being more conscious and aware where the products I purchase are made—possibly add some products made in the USA or in non-threatening or slave labor countries? Appreciate your blog!
Thank you for making your statement about the current events without turning it into a political forum. I think we are all horrified at what is taking place, & most of us are praying for everyone involved.
Talbot’s is one of my favorite stores because I love a classic look. The stripes & color palette make this such a fresh look for spring.
Thank you for talking about the humanitarian crisis taking place in Ukraine.! Some of my ancestors fled not war but famine — but the two often go together. We are lucky we can brighten our lives as you do here today.
Loving your outfit, Beth. I’m not used to the wider legs on pants these days, though. Are they comfortable?
i have been wearing wide legs for several years now and love them!
I love today’s post….your comment on the world affairs is so appreciative and welcome. And, Talbots is my favorite store! LOVE today’s outfit….really big with the nautical look, since I’ve been around water most of my life. I love your top….actually have 4 of them already in different colors and have gotten lots of compliments on them….just might have to get the stripe one, now!!
So glad you are doing a few budget friendly items. We seniors love style but, as the recession and inflation has hit seniors hard, we are having to re think purchases….. groceries and gas are at a budget wrecking pace….. Thanks Beth for thinking of us.
I too am very anxious about war in eastern Europe.. Thank you for mentioning as I know you like to keep it light and informative and fun… but occasionally there is a time and place to weigh in and that would be now. May peace come soon.
I so appreciate your references to your mother which are present in virtually every post. I am blessed to still have my mom with me. I introduced her to your channel recently and she was thrilled. You have achieved what she couldn’t do despite her own classic, elegant, timeless style. Her rebellious daughter has finally at 57 found the role model and style inspiration to develop a wardrobe that expresses her own essence. Thank you!
I also appreciate you sharing your own history – I had wondered at the origin of the name Djalali.
We too stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and other countries affected by war and suffering.
