Hello, friends! Today I want to focus on denim for petites. I am a big fan of all things denim. To me, jeans are a perfect canvas for building an outfit that I feel comfortable in. With a pair of well-fitting jeans as your outfit base, you have the freedom to get creative with your top and accessories.
Take those jeans from casual to dressy with a sequin top and heels; or use the jeans as your base for breaking out of your comfort zone with your top and/or accessories. Go for that animal print top. Wear a bright, fun, mood-lifting color. Bold print? Yes please! When I have denim as my base, sky's the limit for my creativity and confidence to try new things.

Looking back through Style at a Certain Age to round up pictures of me in jeans, I realized that while I haven’t worn a ton of denim on the blog (LOL), I have shown a variety of styles. The other thing I realized was how much I still really love the High Rise Vintage Slim Jeans from Gap. The best bit of advice I can give for buying a pair of jeans is that once you find a pair that fits like a dream, buy two pairs of that style. Buy that style in as many different washes as they offer!
Beth has said this before about denim; really the only way to find the perfect pair for you is to try, try, try, them on! Every body is different. Every brand is different with their sizing. Fortunately for us online shoppers, it’s been made easy to shop by the fit you’re interested in. This helps weed through the choices enough to narrow things down to a reasonable set.
These days I gravitate toward high rise styles that have either slim straight legs or cropped wide legs. Another style I enjoy is the more relaxed fit girlfriend or boyfriend jeans. I really like the Ex-Boyfriend Slouchy Slim Jeans from AG at Nordstrom.
These AG jeans are not sold in petite size, but this particular style is meant to be cropped; so for a shorter person, the length is perfect. Then to give it a little crop look, I like to cuff the hem sometimes.
When it comes to shopping regular sizes for jeans, I always look for cropped versions that will end up hitting right at my ankle.
The other thing I do sometimes; if I find jeans that I really like and that fit really well, EXCEPT for in the length, I will cut them for a raw hem, or I will pay a tailor to hem them. If you find a great pair of jeans, don’t let the long legs steer you away from them. I did the raw hem thing with these Madewell cream-colored jeans. These are old, but there is a very similar pair in the Perfect Vintage Straight Jean in Vintage Canvas.
Wide leg jeans are so great! I typically wear cropped versions and in the winter time, I will still wear the cropped version with boots or loafers. If you’re petite, you definitely want to get your wide leg jeans in a petite size. Otherwise the legs might be too voluminous and long.
These Pilcro Skipper Cropped Wide Leg Jeans are one of my favorite pairs of jeans. They fit like a dream and are still available in limited petite sizes. You can also try the dark rinse version.
