Happy Monday, ladies! What a tense weekend for Dawgs fans. For the second week in a row, it felt like our boys were sleepwalking until the 2nd half. Thankfully, we pulled it out in the end, but the game was more of a nail-biter than it should've been. Yeesh.
Today, I wanted to show you a really simple trick to spice up a neutral outfit: add a print or patterned shirt. Yup, easy peasy. This trick works especially well if you're wearing a monochromatic base---black pants and a jacket for example. A print shirt (and it doesn't have to be a bright, bold color) adds visual interest that can take elevate something quite ordinary to quite interesting.
So, Let's see this tip in action.
Today I'm showing you how to spice up a neutral outfit with a patterned shirt from J.McLaughlin
The outfit is modeled, and I pulled together two alternates. Everything is shoppable via text- or image-widgets.
Talbots is having a 40% off sale. I've rounded up my favorites, all of which are at the end of the post
Today, I've built a blue-based outfit with a pair of denim from J.Crew and a tweed jacket (sold out, but similars here, here, and here).
This mixed floral & leaf print button-down from J.McLaughlin perfectly embodies Autumn and totally changes the complexion of my outfit as opposed to say a simple white button-down.
I'm loving these slingbacks from Ann Taylor. They're a 3" heel. But if heels aren't (or are no longer your thing), swap them out for a pair of pointy-toe flats to maintain the "spirit" of the OOTD.

Love the shirt, but that particular pattern does not appear to be available now.
this pattern sold out lickety split!
You look thin/ great Beth!
thanks, Julie.
All these outfits are right up my alley. I also like to pair neutrals with a print shirt. I have a tweed jacked in another neutral color that has been lonely in my closet for a few years, so I’m going to try this with that too.
I wish I could wear heels, but at least I can look at you wearing them.
Thanks so much for your hints and encouragement.
adding a print to neutrals gives the outfit that little extra something!
