Hello and welcome to Kelly's Kitchen. If you follow my blog, you know that I absolutely love pizza. Every Friday I run a column called Pizza & A Movie where I share a new pizza recipe and a movie or TV show I've been watching. Today, I'm sharing 6 pizza recipes you probably haven't tried.
Who doesn't love a good pizza, really? And what's more: pizza is a great canvas to experiment with different flavor combinations. Ok, ok: I agree nothing can really top a classic Margherita pizza. But I think I've got some ideas below that will inspire you to think outside the box when making your next pie. If you're interested in making any or all, just follow the links for the full recipe card.

I am so excited to share this pizza recipe with you! Creamy white sauce, spicy Italian sausage, smoked and regular mozzarella, thin red onion slices and finished with a good drizzle of honey. Oh my goodness, this one is the new favorite in town. And by “town”, I mean my house. I was surprised when Alex said this is the best one yet because he normally doesn’t like sweet and savory in one bite. If you feel that away too, I encourage to give this a try, just to see if it changes your mind. Are you ready for The Honey Bear Pizza? Let’s do it!
Hello and welcome to Pizza and a Movie! Alex has been asking for a breakfast pizza for a while; so this week we have a pizza loaded with breakfast sausage, cheese, Calabrian chilis and of course, a fried egg. We are headed back out to the Mugnaini wood oven today, but you can easily do this pie in your kitchen oven. This week, we have the new movie, Nobody; starring one of my favorite television actors, Bob Odenkirk. We have the wood fire going, so let’s go outside and get to the pizza!
Alex requested a pepperoni Detroit Style Pizza – with its puffy, thick crust, its edges laced with crispy, crunchy cheese. Similar to Chicago Style Pizza, Detroit Style Pizza is made in a deep pan with everything layered on the dough in reverse order: the toppings on the dough, then cheese, topped with dollops (or stripes) of thick red sauce. Possibly, the most characteristic feature of a Detroit Style Pizza is how the cheese goes all the way to edges; climbing the sides of the pan, resulting in an edge of crispy, browned cheese. Let’s get right to it!
Today we have a pizza version of a classic BLT Sandwich. The lettuce part of our BLT Pizza will come at the end, in the form of a dressed greens salad, topping and finishing the baked Bacon and Tomato Pizza. I really love this pizza because while its components are simple, the flavor is complex, yet nothing is lost. What’s the secret? I think the dressed greens topping the pizza take everything to another level. The bright acidity of the dressing elevates all of the flavors and adds great texture. Let’s do it!
Today we are back out at the Mugnaini Oven for a wood fired pizza. Caramelized Onion with Sausage Pizza. It’s a rich pie, for sure. The ricotta tones everything down a bit with its mellow creaminess. And while the sausage has a spicy kick, the caramelized onions are lightly sweet and deliciously savory. Let’s get right to the recipe!
We have sun dried tomato pesto and fresh heirloom cherry tomatoes for a tomato-two-ways combo that is just about perfect. Add some burrata and fresh basil, and we have something like a Margherita but with more concentrated, tangy tomato flavor and a richer, creamier finish. Let’s get right to it!
