it’s time to go back to the basics today. wardrobe basics, that is. first up, a summer wardrobe staple, the mighty white blazer. y’all know my love for blazers runs deep. even in the dog days of summer, i’m bound to reach for a blazer or cardigan to ward off those frigid indoor temps. yes, the weather outside might register one hundred degrees in the shade but inside? the thermometer sometimes dips into the sixties. brrrrr. i don’t know about you, but when it’s that hot, i’m dipping my toes in the water, or i’m indoors staying cool. as we inch closer to memorial day, it’s time to get serious about summer clothes. whites and brights are what i reach for these days to give my wardrobe that spring/summer touch. a white blazer is a basic that just pulls a summer outfit together with ease and panache. a white blazer in linen or cotton is my go-to when i need to add a bit of sophistication to any outfit.
the bathroom renovation is plugging along with a completion date of 5.12! hip, hip, hooray. it’s looking pretty fab if i do say so myself. it’s still one of the smallest bathrooms i’ve had the pleasure of setting up shop, but it will be a beauty. and so functional with all of the built-in storage. can’t wait to share with you! t-minus seven and counting…
whenever i’m in doubt as to what to wear, i always reach for the basics. a summery white linen blazer from Talbots is just the ticket when i want to add subtle sophistication to an outfit. the past year many of us have lived in loungewear, but it’s time to ditch the sweatpants in favor of joggers. i’ve been a fan of these comfy but chic pants for quite some time. in fact, these black joggers (old, similar here and here) from Ralph Lauren are three to four years old. they look fantastic with a simple tee, denim jacket, or linen blazer. don’t you just love a versatile item? since black and white are always all right, i decided to wear a white tee. and just to add a little fun to this easy breezy outfit, i chose block heel gingham sandals (old, similar here and here) from Ann Taylor. yes, i love to trot out wicker and straw handbags this time of year, but i still count on leather handbags for the heavy lifting. but i do look for features like bamboo handles or summery hues of pink or orange that set them apart from their fall/winter counterparts.

I would love to see pictures of your bathroom! Even if it isn’t 100% done. That’s ok.

Love the outfit. Where is the necklace from?
the necklace is from a small boutique on St. Simon’s Island.
I have to thank you for the Gimme Brow in dark grey post. It totally changed my appearance. All my powders and pencils were reading too red. Because Gimme is a gel I no longer have to dye my rare gray strays. Love it!
i’m so happy to hear you love the Gimme Brow! it’s a game changer!

i wish i could steer you in the right direction. this necklace was discovered in a small boutique on St. Simon’s Island.
You have to have a small core black wardrobe. You know you look fine and just adding gingham shoe modernizes the look. Although navy can compete here. Love navy and white too.
yes, i’ve always been a big fan of black. but most of us are!
Beautiful pants!!
Love the white blazer
thanks, gloria!
I love the white blazer look. 15 years ago I bought a Ralph Lauren blazer in a heavy weight cotton. I bought it to wear on a day cruise and luncheon I held to celebrate our daughter’s wedding the next day. All the bridesmaids and ladies coming to the wedding were invited. At the time it was a splurge, but I still wear it today! It still looks like new. The nice thing is that it is machine washable/drip dry. I iron it with a hint of spray starch and it’s good to go. When I purchase a classic like that I like to figure out what it will cost me per wearing. It’s really passed the test of time.
that’s what i love most about the classics – they stand the test of time! and what a lovely day and memory attached.
Beth, you are so cute in all that you wear and show all of us. I would love to see more style ideas for us ladies that are 12-14 and a little thick through the middle due to harmony changes. I was a size 6-8 until I went
