as we barrel through August (we’re already halfway through the month), our foot is firmly planted in summer with one eye on fall. and, yes, i plan to savor every minute of summer 2021. we will never pass this way again. but fall is fast approaching, so it’s time to start planning for the next season. one of the most iconic fall wardrobe staples is the mighty trenchcoat that rose to popularity after WWI., so today, we’re easing from summer to fall in a classic trench dress.
it’s been a beautiful, peaceful weekend on Tybee Island. lot’s of lounging in the sand, walks on the beach, restaurant reservations, and watching movies at the end of a long day. we squeezed in a few classics this go-round, Thelma and Lousie, A League of their Own, and Field Dreams. all feel-good movies with great casts, a good storyline, and are rewatchable. wouldn’t it be nice if Hollywood produced one or two just like these oldies but goodies with a sweet storyline and great actors? it would be a nice change of pace from the Marvel movies. although, Disney released Cruella this summer, and it was pretty darn cute. Emma Stone and Emma Thompson were at the top of their game. can’t wait for the sequel.
i’ve long been a fan of trench coats so it’s only natural i gravitate towards trench dresses sometimes referred to as a safari dress. wear it now on a hot summer day with sandals or wear it this fall with a tissue tee or turtleneck and a pair of booties. this time of year it’s all about easing from summer to fall with a classic trench dress. what i love most about this silhouette is its clean lines and versatility. today, i’m wearing it as a dress with brown toe ring sandals (similar here, here, and here) and fisherman’s handbag (similar here and here). but it could easily transition to a vest and would look fantastic with a pair of dark rinse skinny jeans. don’t you just love options?

Wow! You look perfect in this dress, Beth!
What a great look for you.
Great look! I love this vibe! I don’t wear dresses but may give this a try with jeans. I love your accessories as well…I might go check it out in the darker color .
You look fabulous as usual!
You look stunning!!
that combination is super for summer, the bag very pretty is one of my favorite wicker bags!!
Thank You for sharing
Love Gloria
Beth, you look terrific, as usual! Does this dress have a seamed waist, or is it cut from a single piece of cloth? I’m long waisted and have to be able to belt it lower than normal. Thus, any dress that has a seam at the waist doesn’t work for me, alas. Thanks!
Loving the trench dress look. I’ll be on the lookout for one (and a tuxedo dress too), over the autumn/winter and in my price range, as I try to get out shopping.
We loved Cruella too. My 8 year old has decided that’s to be her Halloween costume this year!
