when it comes to building my wardrobe i like to have separates on hand. reason being, they become workhorses in my closet. a denim jacket works well with a skirt or a dress last seen here. this linen skirt looks great with a sweater as in today’s ootd or last seen here. and my ballet flats? well, they get oodles of use and were last seen here. isn’t it fun to mix-and-match items from years gone by? in my thirties (or thereabout), i decided that any item hanging in my closet had to come to life 3 different ways. and that’s pretty much how i shop to this day. if i’m standing in front of a drool-worthy skirt deciding if i should shell out a few buckaroos, it has to go with at least 3 things i already own. which is why you will see items recycled over-and-over here on the blog. then, when something new comes into my life i know it has staying power. form and function can come together in the most delightful ways.

hi julia! so nice to hear from you! i have a fab photographer a.k.a. my husband. i always love to share with him that readers notice his many skills! i’m not so easy to photograph as he claims i close my eyes waaaaay too often. guess what? i just pop on my sunglasses and problem solved!
Great outfit! I love the pops of pink!
I have a very similar buying rule. I really never buy things that don’t go with several other pieces that are already in my closet…
saves us a few buckaroos from time-to-time!
Just this week I’ve begun to read “study” your blog. Being 56, and gained some weight, my wardrobe is in transition and I’m struggling to find my look. You have some inspiring looks here! I love to dress “up” on “down” days, such as you’ve done here with the skirt and denim jacket. Your photos have inspired me to clean out my closet and only keep what looks good and feels good. Thank you!
