the shopping on a budget series continues today, featuring a boyfriend blazer. this unstructured blazer with ruched sleeves is perfect for spring and summer temps with its bigger, wider, longer silhouette. and the temps in Georgia have been soaring past the eighty-degree mark all week long! my mini-vacay was timed perfectly. what’s better than lounging by the pool with the sun shining overhead? or dining al fresco with a view of Lake Oconee? a little rest and relaxation were just what this girl needed.
it’s week two of my master bathroom renovation. oscar and ollie are a bit stressed with all of the workers coming in and out. actually, oscar just gets in the way of the contractors as he never met a human he didn’t like. doesn’t everyone want to give him oodles of love and attention? on the other hand, ollie has made herself scarce, only peeking her head out when the noise has dissipated. but plumbing is in place, as is electricity. the electrical rough-in continues today, then a week’s worth of sheetrock. after that, it’s tile for another full week. the good stuff doesn’t happen until the end of the month, with the project scheduled to complete on May 12th. can’t wait!
what’s on trend this spring? a boyfriend blazer. so it was a no-brainer to go shopping on a budget for a boyfriend blazer. one of my style tips for purchasing trendy items is to find one that’s budget-friendly. if it’s a classic item that stands the test of time, i don’t mind shelling out a few bucks. but when it comes to trends, i’m a discount shopper. and this boyfriend blazer from Scoop available at Walmart is super cute and easy on the bank account. that’s a win/win. this blazer features ruched sleeves for a laid-back look; it’s lined and machine washable.
today’s ootd is a perfect example of a high/low outfit. the blazer is from Walmart, the blouse (old, similar here and here) from Lafayette 148 New York. pair it with jeans (old, similar here, here and here) and wedge heels (old, similar here and here) for a casual chic look that’s always on-trend. don’t forget to add a few baubles to personalize your outfit. a gold bracelet (similar here), hoop earrings, and the piéce de resistánce, a pearl brooch (old, similar here and here) that i pinned on my pocket for a fun twist.

Love the brooch on the pocket
just love finding different ways to incorporate my brooches into my outfits. glad you liked it.
I love the white blazer. Unfortunately it is already sold out in most sizes! 🙁
hi jeanne,
we just checked the link to the blazer and it is available in all sizes. and it comes in three colors.
Using the pin on your pocket is a great idea! Something to do with all that old jewelry.
i’ve been collecting pins and brooches for years! what a statement piece of jewelry.
Love your new hairstyle, showcased on Facebook! I think you look younger and brighter. The cut frames your face perfectly.
thank you! it’s been a few years since i went this short but my stylist nailed it!
Very pretty!!
Love your gray rinse in your hair!!
no rinse. just au naturel.
Beth, do you find wedge shoes more comfortable after your knee replacement, asking because i broke my ankle in the late summer and still find heels a bit painful and wondered if a wedge would be a better option as the base of the shoe on the ground is more substantial.
wedge shoes, espadrilles, and block heels offer more support and comfort for your feet as opposed to shoes with slender heels.
many women with feet issues can get by with any of those options while still getting the height of a heel. can’t hurt to try.
I do like blazers but I have a large bust with a small frame and so hard to get the right fit at the shoulders. Any ideas?
i think an unconstructed blazer with a loose fit, no buttons or buttonholes should work. also, sweater blazers have a nice
loose fit too.
I’ve seen on WM and been considering. Seeing on you, had to link over and order immediately – Ivory AND Pink Lemonade. Thanks again for the help! Gorgeous blouse. LOVE a brooch – always have. P.S. Particularly delighted that the fabric won’t be wrinkly and that the sleeves are so cute and conveniently “pushed up” for you.
my hat is off to you! you know what you like and go for it.
