Yep, those 90-degree days are getting old… Don’t worry, we will still have plenty of summer/hot weather inspiration all month long. First things first. When the seasons change it’s a great time to clean your closet (read closet cleanse for ideas) and evaluate your current shoe collection. There are many, many shoes that I wear 365 days a year whether it's ballet flats, loafers, or even ankle boots. These are great options that can easily be styled with tights or socks in future months. But I definitely start to put aside my flip flops and Jack Rogers in favor of sneakers or mules. By assessing what you already have, you can make more informed choices when updating your footwear for the upcoming season.
Two of my favorite shoes that will easily transition from summer to fall are Ilse Jacobson Tulip Sneakers (talk about comfy!) and Rag & Bone Court Sneakers (I purchased my first pair three years ago at the Anniversary Sale) that I wear non-stop until winter. They’re great travel shoes.
If you're looking to add extra warmth and style to your footwear for the fall season, consider incorporating socks into your outfits. Adding socks to your shoes not only keeps your feet cozy in cooler weather but also adds a fun and fashionable touch to your ensemble. Whether you opt for classic ankle socks, trendy patterned socks, or cozy knit socks, this simple addition can instantly elevate your look and make your summer shoes suitable for autumn temperatures.
For an extra layer of warmth and style, consider pairing your footwear with tights or leggings as the temperatures start to cool down. Tights or leggings can not only provide added insulation but also bring a new dimension to your outfit with different colors, patterns, and textures. Experiment with opaque tights for a sleek look or patterned leggings for a fun twist on your summer shoe styles. This versatile layering option can easily take your favorite warm-weather shoes into the fall season with ease, setting the stage for incorporating fall colors and textures in your outfits.
To fully embrace the transition from summer to fall, consider incorporating fall colors and textures into your outfit. Swap out your bright, summery accessories for deeper hues like burgundy, mustard yellow, or olive green to add a touch of autumnal flair to your ensemble. Living in hot climates most of my adult life I’ve learned that exchanging pink shorts for olive green helps to transition from summer to fall and breathes new life into my closet. Also, opt for materials like suede, leather, or lightweight or tropical wool to give your outfit a cozy and seasonal feel.
When transitioning your summer footwear for fall weather, it's essential to consider investing in transitional shoes. Look for styles that can easily straddle the line between the warm days of summer and the cooler temperatures of fall. Ankle boots, loafers, sneakers, and mules are great options that can be paired with both summer dresses and fall trousers. Opt for neutral colors like tan, grey, or black that can effortlessly complement your existing wardrobe. Investing in versatile transitional shoes will not only elevate your style but also ensure that you're prepared for whatever the changing seasons may bring.
