how to wear a kimono
once summer rolls into town, it’s time to lighten and brighten up. not only does our mood change but our clothes as well. there’s just something about warm summer days filled with blue skies and sunshine that put a smile on our face. it’s time to exchange button-upped for easy breezy. and i love to add splashes of color to my outfit. like this casually chic kimono from Anthropologie.
this is the time of year i look for clothes with a loose fit. skinny jeans will always be a must-have staple in my closet. there’s something to be said about pants with a relaxed fit like this cropped pleated chino from Everlane. wide-leg pants are on-trend again. and i think they’re divine. recently, i tried a pair on for size and definitely liked the look. read that post here. many of us get caught up thinking wide leg pants make us look larger. but fashion isn’t always about looking slimmer. if that were the case, we’d be quite limited in our style choices. for me, i choose to adopt a healthy lifestyle with the help of FASTer Way to Fat Loss to stay in shape. then i’m not as hung up on if i look skinny or not. yep, i’m happy with a size 8 body that’s fit.
these slouchy chinos are lightweight cotton poplin, with a relaxed cropped fit true to size. and i love the pleats! this pant is part classic part trendy and perfect for a hot day. i could live in these pants all summer long. they can be dressed down with a tee. or dressed up as in today’s ootd with the addition of a brightly colored top.
a monochromatic ootd gets a one-two color punch from a loose fit kimono. this kimono differs from many in that it’s short, not long. and the front is shorter than the back giving a nice flow to the overall look. this kimono looks fantastic pulled over a tee and is the perfect third layer. especially for date night when you want extra coverage for those frigid inside temps.

accessories are always a key addition to your outfit. today, i chose gold accents from my sandals (old, similar here and here) all the way to my gold coin earrings (only a few left in stock). there’s just something about orange paired with gold that looks summery and bright.

Hi Beth..You look so beautiful and ready for summer! You have a wonderful body image and are comfortable in your own skin! I am working on it, not an easy process, I still want to wear what makes me look thinner! I hope I will get comfortable in my own skin someday!

Great pop of color over the white. Love it and the sandals! I have a few kimonos and I really endjoy them– they are so light, but add an elegant touch. I’ve not seen a short one like this–anthropologie always has fun looks. I have a pair of wider leg cropped white pants and I find I live in them come warmer weather.
Love this look. The red kimono over white with the red shoes. Awesome!
Great idea! I love kimonos.
So pretty! I love this look with the kimono. I will definitely use this idea. I seem to get into a rut and my kimonos hang in my closet. Not any more! Now I have another way to wear them. Love reading your blog!!!!
Very nice! I like that!,
You look beautiful! It’s casual but elegant. I bought one 2 years ago and have yet to wear it. You have given me the courage to wear it. Thanks for all your fashion advice.
I like the look of the kimono.I like how the bright orange breaks up the white of the outfit. I’m not sure I could wear it tied like that. If you have (like I do) a stomach issue wouldn’t something tied right in front make the stomach a focal point? One I’d prefer it not to be.
Wasn’t it just yesterday that pleated pants were a style faux pas and brunt of many jokes. Hard to keep up.
Love this look, and the kimono is gorgeous! My heart is breaking because it has sold out on the Anthropogie website!!
I have 2 summery weight kimonas and never thought to tie the fronts. It’s better than having it fly away in the breeze.
Hi Beth, could you share where you got the gorgeous pearl necklace with blue? Stone that your wore for your sons wedding? Gorgeous!
Hello Beth, greetings from Maxville, Ontario, Canada! I have been following you since I came across a terrific makeup video with you and Nicol Johnson. I am a “classics” girl form way back in secondary school, so I do love how you combine and style all your outfits. My question, however, is not style, but what nail polish colours are you wearing in the Kimono blog? I am a bit of a nail polish and lipstick addict!
Best, Jani
Great look. You gave me some ideas.
Sold out! Too bad looks super😊
