here at style at a certain age, we take a look at all sorts of outfits. special occasions, date night, nine-to-five, lunch, and my favorite – weekend. it’s not always about glamor and glitz is it? even if we were box-star celebrities, putting on the ritz would only comprise about 2% of our life. however, when we go about our day-in-day-out activities we still want to look put together. or as i like to say here on the blog – casually chic. and the outfit has to match the activity. which is why i always ask myself in the morning “where am i going today?” today, it’s all about a design project i embarked upon here at home – our front porch. unfortunately, the inside of our house has been put on hold due to contractor issues… i just might learn how to drywall because my closet/office is one of those projects in limbo. anyhoo, as you know we now live in the south. and we have a proper southern front porch. it will be a space and place where we can lounge, sip ice tea, and watch the world pass by (or maybe just our neighbors). if you are interested in my progress join me on snapchat – styleatacertain – this is where you can catch behind the scenes snippets of my life. when the porch is finished i promise to devote a post to it. in the meantime, i have my shopping list in hand and i’m off, hunting for plants, and pots, and any paraphernalia that will find a new home on our front porch. since i’ll be dashing in and out of air-conditioning i’ve added a lightweight linen cardi to my ensemble. did you notice my color scheme? yup. it’s navy blue. one of my favorite neutrals. it was specifically chosen to work with other items hanging in my closet. cute stripe shorts are a must on a hot summer day. don’t you love the cute tassels on the drawstring? i’ve brought along a straw tote that’s easy to carry but can pull double-duty. its cavernous interior is able to hold more than one shopping bag. all-in-all i’ve a successful start to my first home design project. stay tuned.

Oh my dear, you are at my favorite store! I recognize the orange shopping cart, but you are so better dressed than I am when I go there. Love the silver shoes and that BAG!
BTW, did I ever tell you where I was when I got engaged??

Its a true romance story!
Hi Beth
You look fabulous in shorts. I am afraid I do not go near a pair of shorts anymore. As always you look completely put together! Do you ever get back to SF? We are organizing a blogger luncheon in August and would love to include you if so!
hi cindy! how’s california? i miss the cooler temps! my oldest still lives in the bay area so i will be popping in and out from time to time. if i’m headed that way in august i’ll give you a heads up!

Decorating the porch sounds fun. Enjoy it!
Cute shorts from J Jill: I always think they do a nice job with their linens and drawstring casual pants–and things mix so nicely with their collections each season. And your tassel necklace mirrors the ties on the shorts–nice!
hi sue!
doesn’t j.jill do an excellent job with casual styles?! love their line of linen – perfect for hot temps. i’m loving how you notice all the details. isn’t it fun to tie an outfit together with just the smallest of details!
xoxo beth
