as a style blogger, i can admit there’s very little missing from my closet. even the years that preceded blogging full-time my wardrobe was robust. one reason being my husband’s job was in the hospitality sector. and guess what? there were numerous occasions that demanded we were, well, hospitable. when dignitaries checked in at the hotel your husband ran, and there was a reception, you better believe i smacked on some lipstick and polished my shoes.
but for many years there has been one item that i’ve lacked. that’s all changed since this beauty arrived last week. of course, i’m referring to this gorgeous suede jacket that i just might have to live in for the duration of the year. it’s timeless, and classic, and perfect, including the chocolate brown color.
to highlight this scrumptious jacket today’s ootd is simplicity in motion. head-to-toe black with contrasting brown. but i brought in a pop of texture with the leopard booties and leather handbag.
if the last photo of this set looks like a dead-ringer for a high school portrait, that’s ‘cuz my 40th reunion is next weekend. how that happened, i’ll never know. didn’t i just turn 40?
happy hump day!

Love, love that suede jacket. And the whole outfit, Beth.
Have a great time at your 40th high school reunion. I attended mine in 2014 and had SUCH a good time. I never stopped talking for two whole days, in fact. It was wonderful to see so many friends from high school with whom I had lost touch. That’s all changed now with Facebook and, ever since, when I am back on the east coast where I grew up, I always meet one or two for coffee or lunch. So the conversation continues.
What was especially lovely about the reunion was how excited my mum was to experience it vicariously. She’s 89 and widowed…and was almost as excited as I was to hear what all my high school friends had been doing since 1974.
hi sue!
thanks for stopping by. i’m so happy to hear you had a terrific time at your reunion. and staying touch has never been easier since we have social media at our disposal.
how touching that your mum was so excited to hear all the news from the reunion. but then, i’m certain she has all sorts of lovely memories of you and your gang during your high school years.

Thank you for this inspiration Beth. My daughter and I begin college tours this weekend and I was wondering what would be appropriate to wear that is casual, comfortable, yet looks pulled together, and this look is perfect!
hi sue!
good luck with your college tours this weekend. hope the weather holds up for the two of you
i’m so happy to hear you found a great casual chic look that’s comfy. that’s a priority when logging in the miles whether by plane, train or automobile.

Smashing outfit! Never would of thought to put black and brown together but it is casual chic at its best. Actually I think I have all the components except for the animal print booties. Enjoy your class reunion… On another topic, I thought bags with long straps were shoulder bags and now most are referred to as cross body bag. tomato, tomatoh… Guess I can pull out my shoulder/cross body bags. xoxo
brown and black is one of my favorite color combo’s come fall and winter. it’s very chic.
don’t you love how the fashion industry comes up with a new spin on an old idea? shoulder bag or cross body bag – i love a classic handbag.

Love, love this ensemble on you. Two of my favorite things to wear with a black turtleneck, is a plain brown scarf or a leopard print scarf. The colors go well together. Your jacket is beautiful, as are the leopard boots. All together it’s looks very RICH…..Love…
hi bonnie!
thanks for stopping by. what would we do without our black turtlenecks! but i love your idea of a brown or leopard scarf tied around. sound tres chic!
as for this brown suede jacket – i could live in it all season long…
xoxo beth
Way better than a high school portrait for sure! I love the jacket and am wanting a brown one for myself. This is my kinda outfit. Two thumbs up!

lol! at least i don’t have to worry about acne anymore. one benefit of aging. boy-oh-boy am i ever happy i added a suede jacket to my closet. you might get tired of seeing me in it by season end. just sayin’

Really looks comfortable, too–that alone sells me on it. Such classic pieces that would travel well. (I guess I’m that mode right now and it’s what I look for–) Basic solids and bring along a few pretty scarves, a bag, different shoes, and you’re good to go. Very chic.
how goes the travel? i think you’re racking about the frequent flyer miles! you must be a pro at packing. and you’re right, bring along classic pieces then mix and match.
