it’s a winnie-the-pooh kind of day. you know the one, blustery, breezy, and a little bit freezy. it was the kind of spring day i grew up with, in the midwest. but the sun made an appearance and should stick around for a few days. so i’ll take it.
so how do you dress for a transitional day? the one that can’t make up its mind between winter and spring? layers, ladies, layers. and having a style uniform doesn’t hurt. today, i’m sporting my favorite – the 4 B’s – blazer, button down, blue jeans and booties. typically i wear ballet flats with my style uniform. but seeing as the temps only flirted with the fifty-degree mark booties won hands down.
i tried my best to keep this ootd somewhat spring-like with a nautical navy blue blazer. this one is by Banana Republic 2014ish but take a look here and here for similar choices. if the buttons on a blazer aren’t to your liking, you can always switch them. this is an easy way to update any item in your closet. blue jeans are a wardrobe staple 365 days a year. when in doubt as to what to wear on a casual day this blue jean mama reaches for a pair. plaid is seen everywhere this spring and summer, so a plaid shirt was a no-brainer. and leopard? well, it’s a neutral, so i added a leopard belt for contrast. notice how it ties the suede booties into the mix. to add a little pizazz to my style uniform, i grabbed a camo backpack from Patricia Nash. now i’m off and running and ready to brave those stiff winds.

having a style uniform makes getting ready in the morning as easy as 1.2.3. some days we just need easy. right? happy tuesday!

Thanks for reminding me to update an animal print belt. Quick story…I picked up a mans vintage pony hair belt in XXX at a flea market for $2. The thing was huge but no way was I leaving it on the table! So, I wrapped it twice around one of my couch pillows and it looks fab!
what a great idea! i’m certain it adds some oomph to that pillow. you just never know what you’ll find in a vintage store.

Love it … wearing a red/blue plaid blouse myself today with a fisherman sweater because it’s still cold in Chicago and always in our offices!
stay warm. those dang offices always keep the temps cold even come summer!

I love that backpack handbag! But am I the only one who doesn’t switch out bags for each outfit? I normally switch them out seasonally. Maybe I should be doing more?
well, harriet, since you asked i think you should switch your bags as often as you would like, nothing adds subtle sophistication to an outfit quite like a handbag. a handbag is your best friend as it doesn’t matter if you’ve gained or lost weight – it always fits! the well-made or luxury handbags last a lifetime so it never bothers me to pay a little extra cashola.

Love the plaid and leopard combo!

It’s been blustery here too–in fact we had snow yesterday afternoon. But typical NC weather–today it’s 53 and sunny, so the ice is gone. I admit I’ve been following the layers rule lately. Stay warm! I like the plaid shirt. I have a similar one and really like it. Looks great here.
we can never go wrong with plaid, sue, no matter what season. it looks as if spring decided to show up! enjoy the milder temps.
