the PR team from opens in a new windowTalbots sends goody boxes from time to time to my utter surprise and delight. one never knows what’s tucked inside. this summery opens in a new windoworange striped sweater was one of the items selected for this edition. orange is one of my favorite colors once summer arrives. typically i add a pop of gold for an accent whether it’s a belt, bangles, or shoes. today’s ootd confirms my love of gold and orange as a new pair of opens in a new windowmetallic slingbacks are in action! love how the shoes add subtle texture and flair to this simple outfit. since the sweater has bold white stripes it was a no-brainer to pull on a pair of opens in a new window white denim. but not just any old pair of white denim. notice this pair is cropped and flared. it’s a silhouette that’s modern and fresh. the reviews mentioned to size up which i did but i wish i’d stuck with my usual size 8 as these jeans are a tad big…since orange is the color du jour i couldn’t resist adding my opens in a new windoworange handbag with bamboo handles from opens in a new windowMark and Graham.
- ⅓ ounce simple syrup
- 1⅓ ounces vodka or gin
- 1 ounce rose water
- 3 ounces tonic
- 1 drop red or pink food coloring
- pink rose petals
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake on ice and pour. Garnish with rose petals.
Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- lemon zest from 1 lemon
- ¾ cup sugar
- ½ cup butter melted
- ¾ cup milk
- 2 tbsp sour cream or greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice from 1/2 lemon
- 2 tbsp lemon juice from 1/2 lemon
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp poppy seeds
Preheat oven to 400 F degrees. Spray a 12 mold regular-size muffin pan with cooking spray.
In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt together.
In another bowl whisk the sugar with the lemon zest together. Add the butter, milk, lemon juice, and lemon zest and continue mixing. Add the sour cream, eggs, vanilla, and whisk until well blended.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until combined. Fold in the poppy seeds.
Spoon the batter in each muffin cup, there should be enough batter for 12 muffins. I find it easier to use an ice cream scoop to scoop muffin batter into the pan.
Bake for 20 minutes or until the tops are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center of the muffins comes out clean.
Cool in the muffin pan for 5 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack and finish cooling completely.
